The Digital Strategy Section (DSS) in the Division of Global Communication and Advocacy creates and delivers compelling content to international audiences of parents, young people and UNICEF supporters. It builds engaged communities in multiple languages across social media and web platforms, while providing expert digital services to the organization. Paid digital marketing is an essential and rapidly growing part of this work to strengthen public support and achieve lasting change for children.

How can you make a difference?

DSS is seeking a Digital Marketing Strategist to support paid marketing campaigns across social media and search platforms and to provide expert advice to UNICEF offices internationally. Under the guidance of the Digital Marketing Lead, the Strategist will help to develop and manage advertising campaigns and analyze results. This role will contribute to strategy, paid media plans and execute campaigns, elevating the Digital Strategy Section’s work with creative ambition and technical expertise. The consultancy will also provide technical and strategic advice to a wide range of UNICEF offices. It’s a unique opportunity to advise UNICEF colleagues around the world who are passionate about their work and determined to deliver results for children.

Expected results: (measurable results)

  • Planning and execution of paid marketing campaigns within agreed timelines.
  • Timely reporting and analysis on campaign results.
  • Responses to strategic and technical marketing enquiries from UNICEF offices.

Scope of work

  • Support the planning of UNICEF’s paid marketing on global digital channels, under the direction of the Digital Marketing Lead.
  • Execute, monitor and optimize ad campaigns on Facebook, Instagram, Google, YouTube and other digital channels.
  • Contribute to content production for paid marketing, including writing ad copy, drafting scripts for short videos, curating photography and providing feedback on creative assets.
  • Provide rigorous and thoughtful reports on marketing results, advising campaign leads on the implications for their work and leveraging analysis to continually hone marketing strategies.
  • Follow the latest developments in digital marketing, keeping the social media team informed of changes to ad platforms, emerging opportunities and best practice.
  • Support UNICEF Country and Regional Offices with strategic and technical advice on paid marketing, including guidance documents, webinars and expert responses to staff enquiries.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in marketing, communications or a related field.
  • At least four years of experience planning and implementing paid advertising campaigns on social media and digital properties.
  • Ability to speak English fluently and to write professionally for public communications.
  • Strong technical knowledge of advertising platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and Google.
  • Proven success managing social media and search ads to achieve communications and advocacy goals.
  • Demonstrated experience providing professional training, capacity building or advisory services.
  • Clear analytical thinking and strategic vision.
  • Strong creative drive to create new ideas, find opportunities and solve big challenges.
  • Ability to write sharp, engaging and persuasive ad copy.
  • Methodical approach to project delivery.
  • Deep technical knowledge of marketing and digital and social media metrics, reporting and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of human rights, international development, or humanitarian response.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA (APPLICATIONS WILL BE EVALUATED BASED ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA):

Each Proposal will be evaluated against a weight allocation of 80% for the technical proposals and 20% for the commercial proposal. The total maximum obtainable is 100 points. The minimum acceptable technical score is 49.

HEALTH INSURANCE

The Consultant is fully responsible for arranging, at their own expense, such life, health, and other forms of insurance covering the term of the Contract as he or she considers appropriate. The Consultant is not eligible to participate in the life or health insurance schemes available to UNICEF and United Nations staff members.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.

IMPORTANT – G4 Visa is only valid if the consultant will reside within the tri-state area during the duration of the assignment. It is illegal to apply and obtain a visa for consultants who do not intend to reside within the tri-state area during the duration of the consultancy assignment.

FEE

Requests for services under an individual contract requires that the consultant indicates their all-inclusive fees (including lump sum travel and subsistence costs, as applicable) for the services to be provided. When submitting their bid, the consultant is also advised to take into consideration as part of their bid for the assignment the cost of health insurance and/or photographic, video-graphic equipment if such equipment is needed to complete the deliverables of the assignment.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
