About UNICEF

If you are a committed, creative professional and are passionate about making a lasting difference for children, the world's leading children's rights organization would like to hear from you. For 70 years, UNICEF has been working on the ground in 190 countries and territories to promote children's survival, protection and development. The world's largest provider of vaccines for developing countries, UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. UNICEF is funded entirely by the voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments. UNICEF has over 12,000 staff in more than 145 countries.

BACKGROUND

UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children’s rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. Delivering and sustaining results for children requires action by both governments and the public at large. By setting priorities and concentrating greater effort and investment on children who face the greatest challenges, governments and development partners can make sure every child has a fair chance to survive and achieve their full potential – and realize a future of their own making. To the degree that any child has an unequal chance in life – in its social, political, economic, civic and cultural dimensions – his or her rights are violated. The broader global community increasingly shares this perspective, as reflected in attention to inequality in the Sustainable Development Goals and other elements of Agenda 2030.

The collection, analysis, dissemination and use of good quality, disaggregated data is the foundation of effective action. UNICEF supports governments to use data more effectively to inform investment decisions, policies and programmes, as well as to strengthen national data collection and analysis systems. UNICEF plays a key role in developing, testing and disseminating new data-related tools and methodologies.

UNICEF’s Data & Analytics section (D&A) which sits in the DATA Team of the Division of Data Analytics, Planning and Monitoring (DAPM), is the global go-to for data on children. D&A’s data communication team assures that governments, civil society, media but also UNICEF staff around the world can easily find and access this information, including open data, statistics, and analysis on children.

The purpose of this consultancy is to support the data communication team with specific deliverables. In this execution-oriented role and under the supervision of the Data Communication Lead, the consultant will collaborate closely with the global data team to drive visibility and use of UNICEF’s data and analysis.
