For 70 years, UNICEF has been working on the ground in 190 countries and territories to promote children's survival, protection and development. UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. BACKGROUND

Purpose of Activity/Assignment:

United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative (UNGEI) is a global partnership for gender equality in and through education. Our mandate is to catalyse and galvanize action locally, nationally, regionally, and global for girls’ education and gender equality in education. The UNGEI Secretariat is governed by UNICEF policies for consultancies. We strive to uphold feminist and anti-racist principles in how we work and offer flexible work arrangements.

UNGEI is the only UN entity dedicated to girls’ education and gender equality in and through education. Through its 23-year history UNGEI has been a strong global, regional, and local advocate for this mandate, leading with partners or influencing global commitments and dialogue (e.g., joint UN messaging on girls’ education through COVID-19, inclusion of gender equality in the 2022 Transforming Education Summit).

The Community Coordinator is crucial to the delivery of one of UNGEI’s flagship initiatives, the Global Feminist Network for Gender Transformative Education (FemNet4GTE). FemNet4GTE will bring together local and global organizations and activists who seek to achieve gender equality in and through education. The UN Girls’ Education Initiative's (UNGEI) goal in developing, curating, and convening this network is to create a strong movement of actors that demand commitment by education leaders to this area of work and provide support to them to fulfil their commitments. In addition to creating a connected group of actors, UNGEI will also execute global in-person gatherings. The first event of its kind was delivered in 2022, and UNGEI is looking to build on the success of the event in 2023 and 2024 by scaling and growing the network and the event in line with our objectives and principles.

Scope of Work:

Under the supervision of the Communications & Advocacy Manager, and in close collaboration with UNGEI team, the Community Coordinator will support UNGEI by leading on community management and communications with participants of the FemNet4GTE in the run up to, delivery of and wrap-up of the events in 2023 and 2024.

This is a deliverable-based contract over 2023 and 2024.

1. Continuous and engaged community liaison ensured with the participants of the Feminist Network for Gender Transformative Education
