The overarching strategic goal of UNICEF’s Information and Communication Technology Division (ICTD) is to transform and build partnerships with our stakeholders to successfully implement UNICEF programmes globally through the use of innovative technology-enabled solutions.

Purpose of Activity/Assignment:

The purpose of this consultancy is to collect, curate, validate, and disseminate project progress updates to the various stakeholders and audiences of the ICTD T&T (Transition & Transformation) project, including but not limited to: Divisional and Regional Directors, Country Office representatives, Regional Chiefs of ICTD, Heads of Business Units and the UNICEF user community at large. Audiences may include external audiences such as contracted vendors and UNICEF partners.

This consultancy will be home-based or on-site and is expected to have a maximum duration of 7 months from the start date.

How can you make a difference?

Scope of Work:

The Communications Consultant position is under the direct supervision of the Valencia-based ICTD Communications Specialist, with the key role of managing communication with clients and stakeholders of the for the infrastructure and applications migration component of the ICTD Transformation and Transition project. The role is also responsible for maintaining the infrastructure and Applications migration SharePoint site and monitoring relevant Yammer, MS Teams, and other social media feeds.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely production of various communication content for the Data Center Migration SharePoint site, relevant parts of the Platforms and Service Delivery (PSD) SharePoint site, and UNICEF internal pages (ICTD SharePoint page, ICON), including articles, infographics, captions, news pieces, etc.
  • Schedule, proofread and check content for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Support the planning, development, and implementation of dynamic, interactive, and meaningful content strategies on the section’s channels.
  • Produce and schedule periodically social media content for an external audience (LinkedIn).
  • Manage SharePoint pages to keep them current, functional and engaging, including sourcing relevant images on Weshare.
  • Review and post content as per schedule and comms strategy for each channel.
  • Perform other digital communication and content duties as required and agreed upon with supervisor.
  • Create and stimulate worthy conversations with the targeted community on internal communication channels (Yammer, ICON) to support and strengthen PSD’s communication strategy
  • Organize data and information, maintain records, files, and work plans for the monitoring of project/programme implementation related to management of digital platforms
  • Assist in digital data collection and analysis/evaluation in line with KPIs (key performance indicators) outlined in the communication strategy.
  • Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Bachelor of science in in the following relevant fields: Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 6 years of solid and proven work experience in:
    • Creating communications products for a dynamic and fast-moving project with multiple stakeholders and delivery managers.
    • SharePoint 2010 and 2016
    • Microsoft Teams, Yammer, Outlook, OneDrive
    • Knowledge in graphic design for digital media purposes and creation of infographics and presentations (Photoshop, Canva, PSD, AI or similar).
    • Basic or intermediate knowledge of Adobe Premiere or other editing programme.
    • Advanced level working knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
    • Intermediate level working knowledge of Excel
    • Other Microsoft digital workplace tools such as Lists, Planner
  • Fluency in English required. Working knowledge in Spanish or another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian) is an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
