Under the overall supervision of the UNICEF Child Protection Specialist (harmful practices) and supported by the Senior Behavioural Scientist leading on review of IPSOS findings, the MENARO Behavioral Data Analyst will be required to review, analyse, and synthesize behavioural data related child marriage and FGM obtained through IPSOS findings and related research. The Consultant is to provide support to four countries- Djibouti, Lebanon, Sudan and Yemen to visualize and apply findings, including by preparing country specific briefs and recommendations for programming.

How can you make a difference?

UNICEF MENARO has been involved with IPSOS in a cross regional study on social norms changes initiative on harmful practices. At a country-level, IPSOS has been involved in baseline data collection through surveys of social and behavioural drivers of harmful practices- specifically child marriage and female genital mutilation, and other issues affecting children and families In the MENA region, these surveys have been conducted on FGM, child marriage, xenophobia, child feeding, child discipline and domestic violence in Djibouti, Sudan, Jordan, Lebanon and Yemen. Based on the survey findings IPSOS has shared country specific data on key social and behavioural drivers. UNICEF MENARO SBC and CP will now provide support to country offices to identify specific programmatic recommendations emerging from the survey findings that will facilitate developing clear strategies and messages for specific social and behaviour change in the process of elimination of harmful practices such as child marriage and FGM. UNICEF MENARO would like to hire a consultant to support in this process. The consultant will work part time, with the team at UNICEF MENA including SBC, child protection, statistical and data analysis expertise from research, planning, monitoring and evaluation.

Responsibilities:

• Liaise with UNICEF MENARO focal points to acquire and organise country specific behavioural data from IPSOS studies

• Analyse the data by motivational factors, towards segmentation of audience and/or development of personas for the purposes of informing program decisions

• Conduct statistical analysis to support countries to understand and use behavioural data needs, data visualization and prepare comprehensive evidence-based strategies, especially to refine and disaggregate data to inform program decisions

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Candidate must have an advanced degree that statistics, ideally coupled with behavioural or social sciences, psychology, or public health Experience in child protection is an advantage
  • At least 7 years experience with data analysis using software such as R, Stata or SPSS
  • Demonstrated statistical report writing skills and preferably academic publications
  • Specific expertise in data visualisation, development of practical implications from data sets, and communicating complex data analysis to lay audiences
  • Fluent English; Arabic and French are an advantage
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with counterparts and external partners and ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Proven ability to conceptualize, innovate, plan and execute ideas
  • Ability to take initiative and work with minimum supervision

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
