How can you make a difference?

Scope of the work assignment

  • In-depth desk reviews on the integration of nutrition education targeting school-age children and adolescents in the existing formal curricula in terms of content, depth, relevance, appropriateness and coverage at different grade levels
  • Review curriculum content on the relationship between nutrition and physical activity
  • Understand current competencies and learning targets for health and nutrition education and map the existing learning models and activities being undertaken in schools to improve nutrition behaviours and practices.
  • Consult with the relevant stakeholders (MoE, REBs, and key partners working on adolescent nutrition) to ensure appropriateness, acceptability and relevance of the nutrition education sessions incorporated if there in any
  • Deliver to UNICEF inception report, data collection tools prepared for schools and final review report
  • Work closely with the consultant hired for FAO-UNICEF collaboration on school-based food and nutrition education particularly on how to integrate similar tasks under this assignment.

Payment modality – Payment will be made at completion of work which is when final report is submitted and accepted by UNICEF.

Draft report on desk review of Nutrition (situation and need assessment of food and nutrition problems, existing practices and barriers, policies and models on school-based nutrition education, along with the existing capacities of the education system around nutrition education) and MHM related contents of the formal curriculum based on skills

Prepare a framework for learning objectives (identifying current behaviours and practices) and the for age-appropriate nutrition education with the aim to promote and support consumption and enjoyment of fruits and vegetables, and improvement in dietary patterns and related behaviours

Owners of the review and use of the findings

UNICEF Ethiopia Country Office and the government of Ethiopia will be the owners of the review implemented over the time of the assessment. Technical team from UNICEF will provide technical support in undertaking the operational review assessment and Health and Education Bureaus will be engaged as necessary.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in education, development and/or social sciences or related technical field is required.
  • A minimum of eight (8) of relevant professional experience in gender and education sector systems, some of which should be in a developing country context. Experience working on related assignments in Ethiopia preferred.
  • Experience in conducting curriculum assessments and good understanding of nutrition.
  • Experience in producing teaching/learning materials for adolescent girls and young women.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
