Overview

Provide technical assistance for construction projects

You have:

  • Minimum age: 22 years old.
  • Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent.
  • University degree in Civil/Architecture Engineering.
  • At least three years’ experience in building construction and project management.
  • Experience in managing and supervising medium to large-scale construction works in the public sector.
  • Excellent and proven experience in dealing with contractors and local partners.
  • Working experience within the area of preparation, implementation and monitoring of technical/(re)construction projects.
  • Knowledge of the UN rules, procedures and regulations would be an asset.
  • Language: English (Mandatory), Level - Working Knowledge

Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Description of task

The main responsibilities of the Construction Engineer will include but not limited to the following:

  • Provide overall technical assistance to UNICEF construction projects, from their planning to their implementation and monitoring.
  • Responsible to ensure that effective implementation, monitoring and supervision tools are developed and implemented.
  • Responsible to ensure effective quality control systems are in place and contractor and engineering consultancy companies work in compliance with technical specifications and UNICEF quality standards
  • Monitor and evaluate performance of service providers.
  • Take responsibility for overall progress and use of resources.
  • Coordinate with Operations and programmes required activities ensuring proper and timely actions from both, UNICEF’s and Government’s side
  • Monitor and analyse contract performance against agreed benchmarks and through agreed reporting mechanism. Advise Project Manager on any potential issues and recommend remedial actions or solutions.
  • Ensure a sound handing over of facilities to project beneficiaries.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

  • University degree in Civil/Architecture Engineering

36 Months

  • At least three years’ experience in building construction and project management,
  • Experience in managing and supervising medium to large-scale construction works in the public sector
