Overview

You have:

  • Advanced academic degree in Environmental Conservation, Political Science, Environmental Science is required.
  • A first-level university degree in Environmental Conservation, Political Science, Environmental Science in combination with an additional two years of experience may be accepted in lieu of the Master's degree.
  • Excellent writing skills are required.
  • At least one year relevant work experience preferably some of which should have been in an international setting is desirable.
  • Supplementary courses and/or training in administration, project management or other relevant field is an advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, etc).
  • Excellent knowledge of office procedures is desirable.
  • Experience in conference support or related area is desirable.
  • Fluency in English is required, including excellent drafting skills.
  • Knowledge of Portuguese would be an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is a global intergovernmental treaty aimed at the conservation and sustainable use of migratory species and their habitats. Numerous additional intergovernmental instruments on migratory species conservation have been adopted under the broad umbrella of CMS which are supported by the CMS Secretariat. In addition, two regional agreements on migratory species adopted under CMS have their own Secretariats which are co-located with the CMS Secretariat in Bonn - the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) and the Agreement on the Conservation of European Populations of Bats (EUROBATS). The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. In the present context, UNEP provides the administrative functions for the CMS, AEWA and EUROBATS Secretariats. This post is home-based but includes travel to the meeting venue. The Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is seeking two individual contractors to serve meetings taking place in 2025 and 2026, including the 15th meeting of the Parties (COP15) and the 8th Meeting of the Sessional Committee of the Scientific Council. The overall purpose of this consultancy is to provide secretarial, administrative and general team assistant functions, including: a) Support the organization of meeting leading up to COP15, including the the 8th meeting of the Sessional Committee of the Scientific Council; b) Support the organization of the 15th meeting of the CMS Conference of the Parties and associated meetings (Campo Grande, Brazil, 23-29 March 2026); c) Provide overall support to the CMS Conference Service Team. Within delegated authority, the contractors will be responsible for assisting the Conference Service Team with the logistical preparations in the run up to the above-mentioned meetings by: • Responding to enquiries from meeting participants and Secretariat staff • Maintaining the meeting registration lists • Liaising with Conference Services Unit and other staff on technical and logistical arrangements • Preparing invitations and other official documents • Preparing the draft participants lists for the meetings • Assisting with the shipping of material to venue • Providing travel and visa support to delegates • Communicating with delegates and travel agent regarding delegates' travel to the venue • Formatting and posting meeting documents Reporting lines: Legal Officer and Head of Conference Services

Qualifications/special skills

Advanced academic degree in university degree in Environmental Conservation, Political Science, Environmental Science is required. A first-level university degree in Environmental Conservation, Political Science, Environmental Science in combination with an additional two years of experience in environmental conservation, including work with a non-governmental organization (NGO) may be accepted in lieu of the Master's degree. Excellent writing skills are required. At least one (1) year relevant work experience preferably some of which should have been in an international setting is desirable. Supplementary courses and/or training in administration, project management or other relevant field is an advantage. Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, etc). Excellent knowledge of office procedures desirable. Experience in conference support or related area is desirable.

Languages

Fluency in English is required, including excellent drafting skills. Knowledge of Portuguese would be an asset.
