The Research and Data Section is looking for specific support on its various data projects and annual report – Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals: The Gender Snapshot. The volunteers are expected to conduct background research as well as analyze micro datasets (publicly available Demographic and Health Surveys, Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys etc.) as well as other datasets in excel (which will be provided by UN Women) to support various knowledge products currently being produced ahead of HLPF and the SDG Summit in September. The data insights and related knowledge products are expected to contribute to the dialogue around accelerating progress towards SDG 5 as well as mainstreaming gender across all of the SDGs.

We are looking for 10 Online Volunteers who under the guidance of Ginette Azcona (Senior Data and Policy Specialist, UN Women) will support the Research and Data Section at UN Women with conducting quantitative data analysis on gender related issues that support UN Women’s mandate to accelerate progress on gender equality and women’s empowerment around the world. The Online Volunteer will be responsible for: • Analyzing large microdata sets using STATA programming, specifically ICF’s Demographic and Health Surveys and IPUMS data base and other microdata. • Prepare analytical outputs, including graphs, figures and tables with STATA, R, Excel, MS PowerBI, QGIS and other software based on datasets provided by UN Women. • Carry-out background cross-national and country specific research, including literature reviews and research of background papers to inform UN Women’s flagship report – Progress on the SDGS: The Annual Gender Snapshot. • Factcheck data and estimates including STATA codes and/or excel formulas • Develop short briefs/reports with key findings including visualization and narrative interpretations of findings as required.

The Online Volunteer will be provided with datasets to conduct the analysis and is required to update on the progress during regular calls. The volunteer will be expected to keep all the data and supporting files provided confidential.

Post graduate degree, preferably in the areas of social, demographic, economic or environmental statistics or related subject. Candidates should have advanced computer skills and proficiency in analytical software (STATA, QGIS, R etc.). Strong analytical and writing skills as well as ability to provide and present data in a concise manner is required.
