Job Description

In this role you will operate the CMS Global Pool of computing resources. You will learn to monitor, maintain, and evolve the submission infrastructure of the experiment.

Your responsibilities

  • Monitor the HTCondor batch system used to realise the Global Pool.
  • Adjust the pool paramaters to meet the experiments computing priorities/needs.
  • Upgrade, configure, and troubleshoot components of the Global Pool.
  • Communicate provisioning or scheduling issues and report the Global Pool status at coordination meetings.

Your profile

  • Knowledge in Linux service administration and management.
  • Knowledge of python and shell scripting.
  • Experience with distributed computing or high-performance computing is a plus.
  • Experience with batch systems and high throughput computing on Grid/Cloud is a plus.
  • Experience with Puppet (or other configuration management) software is a plus.
  • Experience with software development and code design is a plus.

  • Ability to strive in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Computer Science or Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
