Job Description

Background:

The International Rescue Committee, one of the world’s largest humanitarian international NGOs, provides relief, rehabilitation and development support to vulnerable people and communities over 30 countries. We began work in Ethiopia in 2000 in response to severe drought in Ethiopia’s Somali region and are currently providing assistance to Ethiopians and refugees in six regions in Ethiopia, implementing emergency and development programs in health, water and sanitation, economic recovery and development (ERD), women’s protection and empowerment, education, child protection, and multi-sectoral emergency response.

JOB OVERVIEW:

The position holder is responsible for implementing community-based child protection and community wellbeing initiative and GBV program in Deder woreda. The position holder will lead all aspects of the prevention and response activities of the program that include working with the community, psychosocial support activities and case management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assist the team in the assessment of the living conditions of women and children in the IDP/Returnee community centers and participate in the development of an appropriate strategy in addressing their needs. - Facilitate the involvement of children and women the community (leaders and parents) in women and girls wellness center and document the progress made. - Support community leaders and government sector focal persons in the monitoring, verification, and documentation of GBV cases. - Follow-up the preparation and implementation of case action plan and conduct home to home visit including outreach programs. - Carry out data Entry into the GBVIMS database. - Support the community wellbeing initiative officers in facilitating and coordinating appropriate care arrangement, and suitable alternative care system with close supervision and attention to the individual concerns of women and girls - Organize and facilitate GBV awareness session. - Organize and lead psychosocial support activities at women and girls’ safe space (WGSS) - Work closely with the CWI Officer in the celebration of international events days and other awareness-raising sessions. - Participate with partners, and the team leaders in conducting the Best Interest Assessment to ensure the needs of women and girls are addressed. - Adhere and fully abide by the GBV code of conduct. - Shall take any additional responsibilities as requested by supervisors.

Qualifications

Education: BSc Degree/Diploma in Sociology, any relevant social science field.

Work Experience: Minimum experience of 0-year experience for BSc holders and 2 years’ experience for Diploma holders. NGO experience is plus.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

- Good communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to work as part of a team as well as to work autonomously when required. - Good command spoken and written English, Amharic and Afaan Oromo. - Preference will be given to qualified female candidates.
