This is a UNV Community Volunteer contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV Community Volunteer contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of Head of Solutions Mapping, and additional guidance of the Head of Exploration and Head of Experimentation, the Community Volunteer will work across several thematic sectors and with 3 specific areas of focus – Exploration of community Development Challenges; Documentation of local solutions and Identification of community led experimentation with development solutions. Each Community Volunteer will:

  • Develop and sustain relationships with a range of local community and citizen groups to understand development challenges, in particular:
    • Consult community members on inclusive development and environment, climate and biodiversity
    • Document the ways in which communities are coping with job and activity losses related to the current economic crisis
    • Document and map community behavior related to resilience building during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Frequently report to the UNDP Accelerator Lab on insights, trends and data generated
  • Cross-check data captured with other Community Volunteers in the recruited network
  • Support communication efforts to share findings from community- and citizen-generated insights
  • Perform other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

  • Good oral and written skills; good drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in data collection, including familiarity with the basic use of digital equipment;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer and mobile phone literacy;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness
  • Have interest in volunteerism as a mechanism for sustainable development, and the UN system.
