In collaboration with the Greater Amman Municipality, the Jordan Office of the United Nations Development Programme established a centre (Heart of Amman Hub) for supporting youth entrepreneurship with a focus on women and underserved communities. The hub is located in the Greater Amman Municipality Park in Ras Al Ain (Amman) and serves as a platform for engagement, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

As part of UNDP’s Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator (GGJA) project and Youth4Sustainability network, the United Nations Development Programme and the United Nations Volunteers program in Jordan aim to create a youth network consisting of 15 young men and women as part of the GGJA project in Jordan, funded by the Danish-Arab Partnership Programme in the Arab region. The network's goal in Jordan is to raise awareness and advocate for green and sustainable solution, as well as to promote the Heart of Amman Hub, as a center for green solutions in Jordan. The network will also be present in Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco, in addition to Jordan.

The project will provide a multifaceted approach to capacity building for youth focusing on the development of personal and community skills, as outlined below: Part 1: Community Engagement and mobilization. Part 2: Green Practices, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analysis, Digital Tools, and Innovation Integration Part 3: Action-oriented Research, Resource Mobilization, and Planning and Event Management.

The purpose of the assignment is to assign three UN Volunteers to support youth engagement, entrepreneurship, and innovation across various interventions in Jordan. The assigned UN Volunteers will focus on three key areas as follow: I) assist in promoting the Heart of Amman Hub as a center for green solutions, while also helping to develop a comprehensive database of green and sustainable solutions. Additionally, they will play a role in organizing and implementing events to foster engagement and facilitate the implementation of these solutions; II) support the Youth for Sustainability network by helping to promote the network's main messages on green and sustainable growth. This will involve raising awareness and encouraging youth involvement in sustainability initiatives; and III) provide assistance to the Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator project team in Jordan, contributing to the advancement of objectives related to sustainable growth and employment opportunities. Overall, the assigned UN Volunteers will play a crucial role in empowering youth, promoting sustainability, and driving green innovation within the specified interventions in Jordan.

Additional information:

National UN Community Volunteers (Part-time) in Jordan are entitled to: • Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) at the amount of JOD 213.7; • Annual and learning leaves; • Free Medical and life insurance; and • Free access to different learning platforms.

Under the direct supervision of the Youth Focal point, Youth Development delegate (YDD) and Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator project Team the UN Volunteer will: A) Provide support to the Heart of Amman Hub focusing on the achievement of the following results: 1) Assist in the day-to-day operations and internal management of the “Heart of Amman Hub”. 2) Provide support in implementing the planned activities and report on achievements. 3) Assist in developing and establishing a comprehensive database for stakeholders involved in green initiatives and environmental activities. 4) Regularly update and maintain the database to ensure accuracy and relevance. 5) Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a database cataloging applicable green solutions. 6) Ensure that the database is regularly updated with new information and innovations in the green field. 7) Promote the activities of the project and services of the Hub among youth networks. 8) Support in the promotion of the project’s main messages on green and sustainable growth.

B) Provide support to Youth for Sustainability Team focusing on the achievement of the following results: 1) Collaborate with the Youth for Sustainability team to monitor and track the progress of the action plan. 2) Collaborate with Youth for Sustainability members to finalize the standard operating procedure. (SOPs) for the internal management of the hub. 3) Ensure that all necessary documentation and processes are in place for efficient center management. 4) Support in the ideation and development of organized activities that target youth with a focus on entrepreneurship and green and sustainable growth. 5) Take part in mobilizing a youth network that would engage in the project's activities. 6) Track the day-to-day presence of the Youth for Sustainability network team within the Heart of Amman. 7) Monitor and report on the daily tasks of the network team in collaboration with the Youth Development Delegate (YDD). 8) Contribute to the creation of engaging social media content for "Heart of Amman." 9) Write and publish Plogs to showcase the activities and impact of the Youth for Sustainability team.

C) Provide support to Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator project Team focusing on the achievement of the following results: 1) Provide support in hosting and implementing events related to the Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator project within the "Heart of Amman Hub". 2) Ensure regular data cleanup, filing, and maintenance of databases related to stakeholders in the green sector and environmental activities. 3) Support in preparing reports and data collection as requested for the Project team.

D) Provide Support to the Youth related activities such as: the International Youth Day (IYD) and International Volunteer Day (IVD) celebrations.

Any other task assigned by the Youth Focal point and Green Growth and Jobs Accelerator project Team.

Note: Regular communication and collaboration with relevant teams and departments are essential for the successful completion of these tasks.

Required skills and experience: Secondary Education or a University/college degree or currently studying towards a degree in sustainability, environment, agriculture, humanities, communication, green economics, entrepreneurship, or technology, artificial intelligence, and animation is an asset. Demonstrated interest and/or experience (up to 2 years) in sustainability, environment, agriculture, humanities, communication, green economics, entrepreneurship, or technology, artificial intelligence, and animation. cooperation research, communications, outreach, digital economy, and entrepreneurship targeting vulnerable communities, youth, and women. • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded. • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience in another youth space/hubs • Ability to speak and write intermediate level in English and an advanced level in Arabic. • Strong knowledge of IT office applications.

Amman, the capital, is a peaceful city with over four million residents. People are friendly to visitors. Services in terms of banking, transportation, health and communications are easily available. Though Arabic is the official language, English is widely spoken among the majority of the population, especially in Amman. Road network is good both in terms of spread and quality of the roads. Public transportation in Amman is limited. Taxis are relatively cheap and easily available. There are a number of shopping malls, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas. A large variety of accommodation options can be found; however, it is worth noting that prices in Amman have generally increased in the past few years. There are no specific security threats. Amman is a very easy city in which to live; large, many amenities, very modern and serviced by an international airport with direct flights to most capital cities. According to the assessment of the UN Department of Safety & Security (UNDSS) Jordan is a family duty station (category A hardship). As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the insurance plan.
