Org. Setting and Reporting

The incumbent reports to the Chief, Field Relief and Social Services Programme (CFRSSP), through the Deputy Chief, Relief and Social Services Programme.

Responsibilities

A. Maintain close contact and cooperation with Community Based Organizations associated with UNRWA, formal and informal community groups, voluntary societies and UN organizations involved in programmes for youth, children, and provides them with information related to UN policies, regulations and other issues of concern. B. Works closely with the Social Services Officer and the Disability and Gender Mainstreaming Officer in establishment of Youth Support Groups and encouraging participation of communities in programmes for youth, children and women. C. Provide technical support to target CBOs in Syria to establish their unique identity, as independent entities by adapting recommendations in the assessment report. D. Guide CBOs in developing their vision and mission statements to ensure consistency and uniformity across all CBOs and posted to be visible to all visitors. E. Provide technical expertise to CBOs in adapting suitable governing structures based on specific needs, size, and circumstances. F. Provide guidance on developing and adapting new policies and procedures to fill gaps that were identified during the assessment. These include HR policy, program policy and procedures, financial policies and procedures, and others. G. Support the CBOs in development of their strategic plans which will guide them to determine the most effective strategies and action plans for achieving their goals. The incumbent with will closely work with DGMO in executing these plans. H. Assess composition of Technical Committees (TCs) in the context of the new proposed structures and ensure gender balance and participation of persons with disabilities (PWDs). I. Train program TCs on gender equality and inclusion of persons with disabilities and other disenfranchised groups. J. Establish close contact with UNRWA’s department of health, education to enhance and strengthen multi-disciplinary cooperation and interventions in programmes for children, youth, human rights and other cross-cutting issues. K. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Work Experience

  1. This vacancy notice is open to internal and external candidates. As an Area post, only candidates who reside in Syria at the time of applications are eligible to apply.
