Job Description

Background/IRC Summary: The mission of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is to help people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their future. Job Overview

The Community Engagement Coordinator will work closely with the Site Director to support intentional and effective partnerships and community engagement efforts in Spokane. This role will work with a broad range of community members and stakeholders and is responsible for building and maintaining an effective volunteer program. The coordinator will support development of outreach and partnership cultivation strategies and will recruit, screen, train, supervise, and support volunteers.

Major Responsibilities

Community Engagement

· Help respond to inquiries from community members related to volunteer opportunities, community outreach events, in-kind donations, and other related inquiries in a timely manner.

· Create community engagement, education, and outreach materials targeting different audiences and help keep those materials up-to-date.

· Help draft or edit content for the IRC Spokane’s blog and social media to educate the community about IRC’s work, increase community engagement with IRC’s work, highlight the work of partners and/or amplify the voices of people from Washington’s refugee and immigrant communities.

· Coordinate in-person and/or virtual events aimed at raising awareness and building community; past examples include World Refugee Day events, Welcoming Week events, virtual Town Hall-style events, and more.

· Represent IRC at local meetings, forums, information sessions, and other community engagement opportunities, as necessary. Help prepare other IRC staff or program participants to represent IRC in such settings.

Volunteer Coordination

- Coordinate with staff to determine volunteer needs and assist with description development. - Conduct outreach activities to attract new volunteers, recruit and interview candidates. - Conduct regular information sessions for potential volunteers, interns, and mentors. - Conduct orientation sessions, training, and ongoing supervision for all accepted volunteers. - Maintain regular communication and act as a liaison between IRC staff and volunteers. - Maintain volunteer files; enter case notes and records in database; manage timesheets and timesheet entries each month.

- Coordinate Family Mentor Program. Recruit, screen and match family mentors to support refugees and asylees. Provide ongoing training and support, troubleshoot issues as needed.

o Maintain strong relationships with IRC staff. Develop family profiles based on referrals.

o Update training materials for new mentors and resources to share with mentors as activities to do with their mentees (i.e., English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) materials, employment preparation).

o Coordinate monthly group session with mentors and mentee clients, and 1-2 mentor appreciation events per year.

- Conduct exit interviews and surveys with program participants

- Actively participate in the Volunteer Coordination Communities of Practice. - Conduct recognition events for volunteers and interns.

Outreach, Training and Other

· Conduct outreach, networking activities, and other advertising to recruit and educate potential donors, interns, volunteers, and partners as needed and Assist in managing shared mailboxes, Facebook page, and other external-facing communication.

· Maintain individual files on all volunteers, record and report all volunteer time, and keep accurate electronic records. Coordinate with colleague(s) to ensure volunteer processing and documentation is tracked.

· Update and develop resources to manage volunteer lifecycle and supervise community engagement interns or other volunteers as needed.

· Other tasks and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

Work Experience****: Minimum of 3 years of related experience.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies

- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively and professionally with community members, partners, volunteers, donors, clients, and colleagues from different backgrounds. - Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment. - Clear and professional communication skills, with an ability to tailor communications (both verbal and written) to different audiences and for different purposes. - Comfortable making plans and adapting those plans as needs, priorities, or context change. - Strong organizational and time management skills; able to develop and maintain systems for tracking relationships and engagement activities. - Experience coordinating in-person and virtual events; good at planning and managing event logistics, with an eye for detail. - Experience creating outreach or educational materials, such as PowerPoint presentations, flyers, informational one-pagers, videos and/or graphics preferred. - Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook). - Ability to prioritize and to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. - Familiarity with trauma-informed practices preferred, but not required. Training will be provided.

Education****: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college preferred.

Language Skills****: Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

Working Environment

- Combination of remote and onsite work in a standard office environment. As the transition away from virtual, remote work evolves, fulltime onsite may be required. Some evening and weekend hours will be required. - Must have a valid driver’s license with legally required insurance. Position will require using own transportation within service delivery area. Mileage reimbursement available.
