Job Overview: Under the direction of the Development Manager, the Volunteer & Communications Specialist works closely with Community Engagement and Communications Coordinator to support community engagement efforts at IRC Washington. The Specialist helps facilitate timely, intentional, and effective engagement of volunteers, donors, and community partners by responding to inquiries and questions from community members/partners; assisting with virtual volunteer orientations and other information sessions. The Volunteer & Communications Specialist provides support to the Community Engagement and Communications Coordinator related to volunteer recruitment and onboarding processes, including administrative support; supporting individuals and community groups organizing in-kind donation drives or other service projects. They assist with documentation of volunteer services and in-kind donations; preparing outreach materials and assisting with writing, scheduling, and updating of blog or social media posts; and other activities supporting community engagement, developing resources, and helping the development team raise the profile of the IRC in Washington State and further the humanitarian mission at hand.

Major Responsibilities:

• Help respond to inquiries from community members related to volunteer opportunities, community outreach events, in-kind donations, and other related inquiries in a timely manner.

• In collaboration with Community Engagement and Communications Volunteer, help prepare for and facilitate volunteer orientations and community information sessions.

• Assist with volunteer orientation follow-up and administrative support and documentation throughout the recruitment and onboarding process.

• Help maintain on-call volunteer email list and help draft communications to on-call volunteers.

• Support individuals and community groups who are organizing in-kind donations drives. Help keep in-kind donation needs up to date. Facilitate donation drop-offs. Help with documentation of incoming in-kind donations.

• Provide internal support and training to departments working with volunteers and interns

• Collaborate with Community Engagement & Communications Coordinator, all IRC Seattle program teams, and other stakeholders to create content and outreach materials for web, social media, and events

• Maintain social media and web pages by helping plan, create, edit, and post content to social media. Crosspost via the website as necessary.

• Help keep community engagement and outreach pages on IRC’s website, Facebook, and other external platforms up to date

• Aid Community Engagement and Communications Coordinator and Development Manager with events, fundraisers, and community engagement as needed

Other community engagement, outreach, and development duties as requested: The Development team is involved in many internal and external events/requests from partners, donors, volunteers, and IRC HQ. All team members play a role in ensuring such requests are fulfilled and overall development team goals are met.

• Represent IRC at meetings, speaking engagements, coalition events, etc. Conduct outreach and networking activities to educate and cultivate potential donors, volunteers, interns, partners, and advocates.

· Participate in development team meetings, weekly staff meetings, and national skills building trainings, calls, and communities of practice.

- Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency. - Other duties as assigned.

External: Partners, Donors, Volunteers, Interns

Job Requirements:

- Relevant degree or equivalent professional and/or lived experience - Prior experience with communications, community and or/volunteer engagement and other related duties in the non-profit sector preferred but not strictly necessary

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

· Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively and professionally with community members, partners, volunteers, donors, clients, and colleagues Ongoing commitment to anti-racism

· English proficiency; clear and professional written communication skills and strong editing skills.

· Comfortable adapting to changing needs and priorities.

· Strong organizational and time management skills.

· Ability to work independently.

· Familiarity with social media (Facebook, etc.) within a professional context.

· Ability to share stories on social media and web platforms clearly and compellingly

· Strong attention to detail, related to data entry, documentation, and copyediting.

· Experience creating flyers, informational one-pagers, and/or online graphics

· Experience coordinating events and engaging volunteers

· Past experience with graphic design preferred, not required

· Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

· Experience using donor CRM systems, especially Salesforce, preferred.

· Knowledge and understanding of ethics and confidentiality related to fundraising preferred.

Working Environment:

· Must be based in the service delivery area.

· A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined. May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

· Must have a valid driver’s license with legally required insurance. Position will require using own transportation within service delivery area. Mileage reimbursement where applicable.
