General Background

UNOPS is looking to support Labor-intensive Maintenance in Public Areas that focuses on improving the access to quality education with equitable employment opportunities using the Cash for Work modality (CfW) for both Jordanians and Syrian refugees.

The project entails the provision of maintenance works in selected public schools across six governorates in Jordan. This project will not only address the short-term needs in maintenance across the Jordanian Education Sector, but also support the Ministry of Education in Jordan in developing a sustainable school maintenance mechanism.

Functional Responsibilities

Purpose and Scope of Assignment

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Field Coordinator will be responsible for, but not limited to the following functions and responsibilities:

  1. Support the selection process of CfW beneficiaries (unskilled workers) and undertake community outreach in coordination with the contractor/s,
  2. Verify the selection of CfW beneficiaries in line with the predefined criteria,
  3. Provide support in operational and administrative issues in relation to the CfW beneficiaries such as facilitating between contractor/s and relevant authorities in securing CfW work permits,
  4. Monitor the contractor/s in managing the CfW beneficiaries including training, compliance with the SOPs, labor standards etc.
  5. Conduct field visits to oversee, coordinate and monitor field level activities of the project;
  6. Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager.

Monitoring and Progress Controls: Clear description of measurable outputs, milestones, key performance indicators and/or reporting requirements which will enable performance monitoring.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education: - Secondary school certification in required. - Bachelor degree preferably in Business Administration, Project Management, Business Administration, Management, International Relations, Social Studies or other related field would be a considered advantage.

Experience: - A minimum of two years of experience in supporting project implementation and/or coordination in either public or private sector organization is required.

  • Secondary education in combination with a total of 4 years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the education requirements outlined above.

  • Working experience in a project – based environment is required.

  • Experience in managing CfW projects is an asset.
  • Experience in Cash for Work management including budget responsibility of high volumes is desirable.
  • Experience with international organization/s and/or UN agencies is an asset.
  • Proficiency with computers in particular MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Internet, MS Project, and other related software related to the positions field of expertise.

Language: - Fluency in English and Arabic
