Organizational Setting

The FAO Subregional Office for the Pacific Islands is located in Apia, Samoa and covers the 14 Pacific Island countries. The project “Implementation of recommendations to improve Samoa’s Community based Fisheries Management Programme (CBFMP) Phase II” is funded through the FAOs Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) with a 2-year implementation period (March 2021 to February 2023). The project will focus on the implementation of recommendations from the CBFMP review and address technical gaps to further strengthen the overall execution and awareness of the programme.

Reporting Lines

The Community – based Fisheries Management Programme (CBFMP) Specialist will be under the overall supervision of the FAO Sub-Regional Representative for the Pacific Islands, and the technical guidance of the LTO and Small-scale fisheries and aquaculture consultant, and in collaboration with the National Project Co-ordinator (NPC).

Technical Focus

The Community – based Fisheries Management Programme Specialist will undertake specific technical activities that will contribute to the project´s overall outcome on improved execution, national understanding and awareness of Samoa’s community-based fisheries management programme.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Facilitate the finalization of the Samoa CBFMP manual and the CBFMP community brochure:
      • Organize and facilitate a workshop to review the draft manual and brochure
    • Revise the draft manual and brochure, and submit for review and feedback from Samoa Fisheries and FAO
    • Address any feedback from Samoa Fisheries and FAO to submit a finalized version of the manual and brochure
    • Work closely with the editor and graphic designer on the layout of the manual and brochure
  • Support the organization of the CBFMP manual flash drives
  • Provide technical and logistical support to the implementation of other CBFMP activities in the project

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree in coastal fisheries science, coastal fisheries management, coastal fisheries development or related field
  • At least two (2) years of experience in working in coastal fisheries management/development and/or with FADs
  • Good communication skills in English, written and oral
  • Ability to work and meet deadlines with remote supervision
  • A National of Samoa or residing in Samoa with a valid work permit.
