Overview

You have:

  • A minimum of 7 years of professional work experience in operating audio and video conferencing equipment is required.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the field of video conferences and remote simultaneous interpretation systems is required.
  • At least 3 years of experience with computers and telecommunications is required.
  • At least 3 years of experience in digital and analog electronics is required.
  • Good technical knowledge of audio mixer and associated equipment is desirable.
  • Experience with UN conference setup, ability to handle specialized AV requirements for UN high-profile events and conferences is desirable.

Contract

This is a UNV National Expert contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Expert contracts.

The video conferencing technician is a client-facing individual who provides audio-visual technical support in ESCWA conference rooms. This role also supports different virtual meeting platforms and performs level 1 troubleshooting of audio-visual systems. The technician will work as part of a team or individually on given assignments without supervision.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Telecommunications Technician or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Communications Technician - Video Conferencing Technician will:

  1. Install, configures and tests audio, video conference and desktop video conference hardware/software using available communication and network connectivity.
  2. Assist in meetings’ preparation by preparing and configuring conference hardware in various locations throughout the Commission and operates equipment during conferences.
  3. Provide support and training for users of conference systems. Install, operate and maintain the technical equipment used to record, amplify, enhance, mix or reproduce sound. he/she will identify the sound requirements for a given task or situation and perform the appropriate actions to produce this sound.
  4. Test equipment and setting up the necessary Wide Area Networking (WAN) links before conferences.
  5. Operate the relevant room equipment during the conferences. The UN Volunteer must oversee the entire conference for some time to ensure that all equipment is functioning properly.
  6. Ensure that the equipment necessary for each video conference is tested and working properly. This will require working knowledge and experience on Cisco, Tandberg video conferencing endpoints, gateways, and multipoint control unit products; online virtual conference platforms such as Zoom, Ms-Teams, Cisco WebEx, remote simultaneous interpretations (RSI) platforms KUDO, Interprefy, Interacio; audio mixers hardware and configuration; LAN/WAN protocols and technologies; Switches and Routers; and an overall understanding of satellite communication technologies.
  7. Assist with the maintenance and operation of audio conference equipment, audio mixers and interpretation systems.
  8. Research and evaluate new conference products ensuring compatibility with current operations standards and growth for future needs.
  9. Assist with the distribution and return of CIT equipment for DPKO and with Inventory Management functions such as receipt, inspection, issue, return-to-stock, write-off, shipments and stock checks.
  10. Perform other duties as required.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in (Beirut). National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.

This Assignment falls under a Special Programme Initiative where Expertise Differential is equivalent to 20% of the Monthly Living Allowance.
