Overview

You have:

  • A university degree in Communications or a related field from an accredited institution
  • At least three years of relevant experience is required
  • At least five years of relevant professional experience in multi-media and communication
  • A strong background in media and communications tools and developing communication materials is an advantage
  • Access to tools like Canva, Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), and other multimedia creation tools will not be provided

The Online Volunteer will support the OHCHR Regional Office for Southern Africa in fulfilling its annual workplan and strategic plan with a focus on strengthening its organisational effectiveness with respect to communications and advocacy. Working closely with the Public Information Officer (PIO), the volunteer will help ensure cohesive and effective messaging across platforms. This assignment also offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in internal and external communications within a UN agency and enhance communication collaboration skills across ROSA pillars. Reporting to the PIO, the selected candidate will co-create, draft and review all communication and advocacy content and strategies for ROSA events, campaigns and related projects.

OHCHR ROSA is currently looking for one (1) Online Volunteers to co-develop, draft and review communication content and strategies. Specifically concepts and key messages for communication campaigns, human interest and impact articles, remarks, opinion pieces for internal and publications including but not limited to OHCHR Website, OHCHR Intranet, UNCT newsletters, social media platforms, podcasts. Tasks will also include review and sub-edit reports and policy briefs and related documents to ensure alignment and consistency with OHCHR style guide

TOOLS & LICENSES • Access to tools like Canva, Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), and other multimedia creation tools will not be provided. Applicants must have their own access to the necessary tools to produce the required output for this role.

SKILLS • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint; • Ability to work independently but with strong interpersonal skills; • Proven ability to produce quality work accurately and concisely according to set deadlines.
