This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of UN Women’s MPTF-Armenia Project Coordinator and the Peace, Security & Humanitarian Specialist, the UNV Communications Specialist will:

  • Organize a meeting with UN Women, partnering UN agencies and other partner organizations to inform about the theme of the campaign and agree on the activities to be organized

Support the planning, implementation and coordination of the 16 Days campaign in close cooperation with partnering UN agencies, and possibly with an external media company

  • Support in the organization of consultation meetings with key relevant stakeholders in the area of violence against women and women’s economic security, including on the 16 Days campaign
  • Develop a communication plan for the 16 Days of Activism including a joint calendar of activities
  • Engage in follow-up work to support UN Women and partnering UN agencies for the development of all campaign related materials and implementation of all specific activities
  • Support production of communications material, including infographics
  • Develop and disseminate outreach communication materials, presentations, knowledge products, and other relevant documentation
  • Utilize social networking and other media strategies for advocacy and promotion
  • Provide advice and support to UN Women and partnering UN agencies, including other partner organizations on the implementation of their activities and make efforts to ensure coordination between different activities
  • Take photos and quotes by participants during campaign activities and provide a short summary
  • Assist in the preparation/adaption of content for social media throughout the 16 Days of Activism
  • Prepare a media review with all the articles and media reports covering the 16 Days campaign
  • Prepare a 16 Days ****Newsletter-style report, capturing key events and actions - such as though photo essays and a web timeline
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor

Educational additional comments

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, e.g. Communication, Media, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field.

Experience remark

  • At least 2 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in public relations, communications, or advocacy or other relevant programmes, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
  • Experience in desktop editing/publishing, copy-editing and production.
  • Experience in journalism, web publishing and public relations.

  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness;
  • Have affinity with or interest in Gender Equality, Inclusive Economic Development, Violence Against Women and Girls and/or relevant field of work, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
