This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the FAO Representative to Myanmar and the operational supervision of the Emergency and Rehabilitation Coordinator in Myanmar, in close cooperation the Team dedicated to the Emergency Projects, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Strengthen the communication capacity of FAO Myanmar ’s and especially its Emergency program;
  • Capture and develop stories on FAO's action at the regional level and national level to be integrated into articles, editorials, press releases and other public information products;
  • Contribute to resource mobilization efforts through preparation of briefs, leaflets, infographics, powerpoint presentations, videos, and dashboards on ongoing programs;
  • Provide quality assurance, communication guidance and linguistic support for FAO communication products;
  • Facilitate the dissemination – at country, regional and global levels – of relevant public information products, including publications on relevant FAO web sites;
  • Develop and maintain regular contacts and partnership with local and international organizations, stakeholders, civil society and other humanitarian actors;
  • Work with technical officers and partners, identify and document best practices and lessons learned;
  • Edit/revise relevant programme/operation documents, when required;
  • Perform any other related duties as requested.

Educational additional comments

A University Degree in communications, journalism, information management, graphism, or a related field.

Experience remark

  • Minimum of 5 years of proven knowledge and experience in advocacy and outreach activities at the country and/or international level in emergency setting, particularly related to agriculture, food and nutrition security and/or food safety, and
  • Capacities to work in stressful environment (short delays, overtime)
  • Excellent working knowledge in English is essential.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment;
  • Experience with different partners/organizations
  • Minimum of 3-5 years professional experience in developing countries working on communication issues
  • Understanding of livelihoods programming in humanitarian and development context preferably with experience of refugee-related communication.
