Background Information - Job-specific

The incumbent will support WASH programme unit in India. Currently UNOPS is supporting the Jal Jeevan Mission, Government of India’s flagship programme that aims to provide Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) to every rural household by 2024 through piped water supply. UNOPS is committed to provide strategic technical and capacity building support to the Government of India to achieve the objectives of JJM and share the learnings with the global community. To this end UNOPS will support the states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Assam, and Tamil Nadu with technical and capacity building inputs over a period around 3 years. The main objective of the project is to facilitate the delivery of the Jal Jeevan Mission in the target districts by strengthening the capacity of government and other stakeholders at national, state, district, and village level to plan and implement the mission in a sustainable manner.

Four underlying objectives support the main objective are:

  • To strengthen the delivery of National Jal Jeevan Mission by strengthening the capacity of institutional stakeholders to facilitate the mission achieve its goal and support SDG-6

  • To strengthen the institutional delivery mechanism in the selected states for planning and implementation to manage community-based water supply systems, water quality and safety, grey water management and community-based O&M

  • To empower project beneficiaries for participatory analysis of their current situation and undertake collective local action to plan and leverage funds to enable water and sanitation improvement in their villages
  • To capture lessons learnt, share, and disseminated with practitioners for the adaptability

UNOPS will be starting a project on Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy in collaboration with Angul District Administration and UNEP in Angul district of Odisha. UNOPS will support the Angul district administration in setting up a Project Management Unit.

Under the overall guidance of the Country Manager, India, the Communication & Documentation Senior Assistant’s will consist of various communications tasks and projects, especially on design, content development and communications related procurement, administration and event management.

The incumbent would need to undertake occasional travel.

Functional Responsibilities

Media Outreach & Information, Education & Communication (IEC) management

  • Support to the digital and other media outreach of the program in a strategic manner
  • To provide support in visibility to the Programme and its activities to stakeholders and public
  • Provide support to manage all print, electronic and social media platforms to effectively disseminate the project activities and process documentation, reports for events and project activities conducted for donors.
  • To provide support to the country manager in collection of success stories from field with good pictures and videos.
  • Support in preparing of press briefs, notes, releases and liaise with the media wherever required

Documentation Support - Assist in the development of technical specifications and terms of references for purchase of services and goods needed for delivery of print, and audio-visual communication materials - Assist in the preparation of requisitions, payment requests and other administrative documentation related to the communication activities - Support in preparation of project reports/ brochures/ fliers and other communication materials as necessary - Maintain physical inventory of all communication material procured and disseminated by the project. - Support in incorporation of gender mainstreaming into the communication activities in accordance with the project objectives - Any other communication and/or related administrative support tasks

  • Publications are delivered to relevant audiences in a timely manner
  • An efficient filing and tracking system is maintained
  • Actions are followed up promptly and efficiently

Education/Experience/Language requirements

a. Education

  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Bachelor or Masters degree preferably in communications or related field (Media Studies, Journalism, Political Science, or International Relations) would be an asset and may substitute some of the required years of experience.

b. Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of cumulative experience in supporting communications and operations, preferably with an international organization is required.
  • Good communication, confident writing, and good analytical skills are essential.
  • Experience in creating and distributing e-newsletters and/or producing content for websites and social media in English is an asset.
  • Experience /knowledge of web-based applications and Google Suite products especially google forms, sheets, docs and slides is an asset.

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of Hindi is an asset.
