Background Information - Job-specific

Under the overall guidance, direction and supervision of the Country Manager, the Communications Assistant will be responsible for providing support services to Business Development and Programme activities. S/he is expected to support the Country Manager with communication related activities and other partnership management.

Functional Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the Regional and country offices in the necessary management to establish strategic alliances (Partnerships) with national and international strategic actors from various sectors.
  • Support the definition of strategic communication plans and their implementation
  • Provide support to communications with the media representatives and other stakeholders and partners
  • Support the production of communications materialEstablish and maintain the project’s calendar of events
  • Maintain archive of projects photos and media coverage
  • Collaborate with crisis management activities, when needed
  • Support to provide qualitative and quantitative analysis of media coverage for the Projects reports and on as needed basis as requested by the line manager
  • Support to organize project events, donors/VIP visits, press conferences and other media opportunities
  • Assist in the development of technical specifications and terms of references for purchase of services and goods needed for the conduct of communications activities
  • Provide communication support for organization of workshops/trainings
  • Participate in the relevant UNOPS’ Communities of Practice and the UN Communications Group in Brazil
  • Support incorporation of good governance, human rights and gender equality concepts, principles and best practices into the communication activities in accordance with the project objectives and methodology.
  • Perform other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above

Education/Experience/Language requirements

  • Secondary education is required. Bachelor degree would be an advantage.
  • Diploma, Bachelor degree or higher school certificate with certification in communications (Media Studies, Journalism, Marketing and communication related fields,) is an asset.

B. Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of cumulative experience in the area of communications and operations, preferably with an international organization (or) a first level/bachelor’s degree would be an asset and may substitute for some of the required years of experience.
  • Excellent communication, confident writing, and good analytical skills are essential.
  • Documented experience in creating and distributing e-newsletters and/or producing content for websites and social media is an asset.
  • Experience with video production is an asset
  • Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office Package or GoogleSuite is required.

C. Languages

  • Fluency in Portuguese.
  • Advanced knowledge of both written and oral of Spanish is required.
  • Knowledge of English is an asset.

  3. Contract duration: Ongoing ICA – ‘Open-ended, subject to organizational requirements, availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
