STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Advanced University degree in Political Science, Economics, Statistics, Information Management or Journalism, Business Management, Social Sciences or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional 2 years of related work experience and/or training/courses. Experience:

  • At least three years or more of postgraduate professional experience in communications and/or donor relations/reporting, with a background and interest in international humanitarian development.
  • Experience of managing and building capacity of staff with related areas of expertise. Ability to lead, coach and motivate junior and/or less experienced staff members

Knowledge & Skills:

  1. General knowledge of information management best practices, techniques and processes with some understanding of the basic theoretical background.
  2. Strong written and oral communication skills, including substantive analysis and report writing skills.
  3. Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly assimilate, UN/WFP specific processes and systems.

Language: Fluency in English in both oral and written communications. Fluency in Portuguese desired.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These jobs are found in Country Offices (COs), and report to the Deputy Country Director or the designate. Job holders are required to carry out well-defined activities and straight forward analytical work. They are likely to be working closely with a more experienced professional staff member receiving guidance and regular feedback on work performed.

JOB PURPOSE

The role will support senior management in communicating, reporting, and external relations related to WFP activities. The staff member will perform duties related to Operational Information Management (OIM) and Performance Reporting (PR), including: contributing to the presentation of a standard and consistent operating picture of WFP operations; supporting effective management of relationships and collaboration with external partners and donors; and ensuring a flow of relevant information between WFP and partners that facilitates timely decision-making at all levels.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Develop, maintain and update an appropriate strategy and work plan for assigned area, which implements relevant corporate and Country Office-spesific strategies in order to maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP, and support fundraising activities.
  • Provide day-to-day maintenance and influencer engagement for CO Facebook page
  • Produce quality communications products, ie, video, photo, text stories, press releases, etc., and disseminate them through appropriate communication channels, ie., www.wfp.org, global/regional social media, media outlets
  • Prepare and provide regular information to educate new and potential partners on the WFP Country Strategic Plan (CSP), including development and distribution of communication materials and advocacy briefs for CD/DCD.
  • Support the development and quality assurance of funding proposals, and contribute to establishing new partnerships, to enhance WFP’s programme implementation and reputation in the areas of nutrition, school feeding, VAM, emergency response, food security and agriculture.
  • Maintain effective relationships with donors, UN Agencies, NGOs, host government and other partners, in order to keep them informed on important, strategic operational WFP issues.
  • Support the building and maintenance of effective relationships with the line ministries of the host government, donors, UN agencies, NGOs, and other partners, attending meetings where required.
  • Perform any other related duties as required.
