In its efforts to position the Organisation as a development partner of choice, provide visibility to donors, share key messages with the national and international audience as well as communicate the achievements of ongoing and future activities, WFP Armenia seeks a Communication Officer lead the communication team in showcasing WFP’s work, provide visibility to donors – and explore opportunities for additional external and internal media cooperation opportunities.

The purpose of the Communications Officer role is to ensure strategic media engagement for the public and beneficiaries through all media platforms enhancing understanding about food security, zero hunger, the World Food Programme, and donors engagement. How can you make a difference?

In this position, you will have to:

  • Design and implement WFP Armenia’s communication action plan and the communication strategy aligned with the Country Strategic Plan for 2019-2025 with the support and guidance of the Country Director;
  • Work closely with Regional Bureau and HQ to ensure that messaging and activities are consistent with WFP HQ ;;
  • Within the communication strategy, identify targeted audience groups, platforms, events and key messages to maximize the visibility of WFP Armenia activities and its endeavours to eradicate food insecurity and malnutrition across the country by 2030;
  • Act as a liaison between the different functional units in the Country Office to identify communication needs of the different activities and be responsible for the production of communication and visibility materials (photos, videos, stories);
  • Provide communication expertise in line with WFP standards to, when necessary, externalizing the production of communication material to external stakeholders;
  • Guide and supervise staff in the communication unit to produce content, develop and scale-up the implementation of social media platforms, as communication, advocacy and fundraising tools for national and international audiences;
  • Generate, improve and increase donor visibility activities on the impacts of WFP Armenia interventions through traditional and non-traditional communication material;
  • Collate outreach data contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reports. Support communications activities that enable informed decision making and ensures consistency of information presented to the media and other stakeholders;
  • Maintain a contact list of journalists and media outlets and support the flow of news/information about WFP’s work to the media, in order to support regular and appropriate communications.
  • Generate donor specific visibility content including, text, photos, videos and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms, in order to support global and country fund-raising activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages;
  • Support capacity building of WFP staff on all aspects of communication, provides advice and guidance within area and level of expertise, in order to ensure that all activities meet desired standards of consistency, quality and impact;
  • Liaise and interact with WFP staff and external counterparts to support aligned activities and a coherent approach to communications within WFP, including in interagency UN advocacy and media opportunities; in coordination with partners feed and update UN Armenia social media and website by developing high quality communication materials reflecting the work of WFP in the country;
  • Collate outreach data, contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reports, support communications activities that enable informed decision making and ensure consistency of information presented to the media and other stakeholders;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Education: Advanced University degree in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

Experience: At least two (2) years of postgraduate professional experience in utilising specialist communications techniques to enhance functional outputs. Has experience in producing tailored products, managing and using social media platforms for communication activities. Has supported projects and operational activities that maintain and develop donor and host government partnerships. Has collated data, assisted in drafting resourcing analysis and collaborated with accurate and timely briefs as well as reporting to donors. Is knowledgeable on how to create and use relevant tools and relevant softwares to edit photos, videos and produce stories.

Knowledge & Skills: Strong written and oral communication skills, including substantive analysis and report writing skills. Additionally is a great team player and can work with minimum supervision.

Languages: Fluency (level C) in English and Armenian languages. Working knowledge (level B) of Russian language is desired.
