Background Information - Job-specific

The position is located within the Communications Group (CG) at UNOPS headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark.

CG is responsible for producing and disseminating information about UNOPS work and activities to external audiences, as well as facilitating the flow of information within the organization.

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Internal Communications Manager, the Internal Communications Officer is responsible for establishing procedures and processes to strengthen and better structure the internal communications function in UNOPS.

The role facilitates effective communication across the organization in order to reinforce strategic objectives, provide information to personnel, highlight key successes and improve organizational culture. It encompasses the timely coordination of internal communication through a range of channels to ensure ease of access, clarity and consistency.

Functional Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Internal Communications Manager and the Internal Communications Specialist, provide advice to practitioners across the organization to support internal communications by providing specific and timely information to enable the organization to engage internal stakeholders.

  • Develop and manage calendars of key internal messages to ensure consistent, relevant and timely delivery of internal communication material.

  • Measure the effectiveness of internal communications messages and channels on an ongoing basis and make recommendations to review and amend established processes as appropriate, with particular focus on the analysis of the Intranet and the corporate newsletter.

  • Oversee the content and delivery of the weekly internal newsletter.

  • Support the Internal Communication Specialist in ensuring that the UNOPS intranet is up-to-date, that content organization is aligned with agreed governance, and liaise with the different units and groups to implement updates.

  • contribute to the development of new and refined internal communication channels, including audio-visual products

  • Support the monitoring and moderation of questions from internal feedback channels with particular focus on communicating organizational dialogues in the corporate newsletter and the intranet.
  • Support the develop the Communications community of practice through active participation, timely engagement and coordination of expertise, as well as planning of regular share fairs.

  • Advise and train internal communications practitioners to empower them to contribute to the UNOPS communication channels, ensuring alignment with the corporate strategy and branding.

  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by the line manager

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

  • A Master's Degree or equivalent within Business Administration, Marketing, Communication or a related field is an advantage.
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required but with an additional 2 years of relevant work experience.

Work Experience - Minimum 2 years of experience in knowledge management, product design or marketing for incumbents holding a Master's Degree, - Excellent computer skills at the user level, in particular substantial expertise in video editing software and Google Workspace, - Very good verbal and visual communication skills required - Very good to excellent writing and proof-reading skills required - Consistently delivering accurate, clear and concise messages in written or oral form - Expertise in knowledge management (approach, IT tools, etc.) will be considered an asset

Languages - Fluency in English is required. - Working knowledge of an additional UN language, in particular French and Spanish, is an asset

Contract type, level and duration

Contract type: ICA - Individual Contract Agreement Contract level: IICA1 - ICS8 Contract duration: Open-ended, subject to organizational requirements, availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
