JOB PURPOSE

The Communications Officer NOA is responsible for assisting WFP Bangladesh Country Office in achieving the goals set out in its Country Strategic Plan (2022-2026). The Communications Officer will support the delivery of a range of communication strategies and activities in support of CSP implementation, while contributing to partnerships building, resource mobilization, and enhanced brand recognition and reputation for WFP.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Job holder will report to the Communications Officer and is involved in the day–to–day activities, including but not limited to: 1. Contribute to the advocacy and communication strategy development and implementation: Assist Communications Office in the development of SMART advocacy and communication objectives and plans in support of WFP’s visions for both its development and emergency programmes. 2. Donor visibility generation and dissemination: Support the implementation of advocacy and communication strategies, deploying appropriate communication tactics and tools, such as visual content gathering and production, press releases, human interest stories, advocacy briefs, talking points, creative campaigns, events, etc. 3. Cross-cutting support to programmes, partnerships and other WFP units/teams: Support resource mobilization, including donor visibility generation and dissemination, in close collaboration with programmes, partnerships and other relevant WFP units/teams to fulfill visibility requirements timely and meaningfully.

4. Traditional and digital media engagement: Coordinate with local and international media – print, TV, radio, web; leverage the reach and power of digital media and manage a network of supporters who can help elevate WFP’s brand and reputation. 5. Content gathering and production: Build case studies/evidence to showcase the impact of WFP’s work in Bangladesh including in support of WFP 50th anniversary commemoration. 6. Media and social media monitoring and analyzing: • Monitor coverage and conversations around issues WFP cares about on TV, radio, web and social, etc. to leverage advocacy/brand-building opportunities. • Assist the communications Officer in managing the country office social media accounts and provide related analytical reports. • Leverage WFP corporate tools in image management, media monitoring, among others, and • use it effectively in support of WFP Bangladesh’s communication objectives. • Provide monitoring and evaluation of WFP’s advocacy and communications activities for the Communications Officer to analyze the effectiveness of the strategies and their related activities and producing and disseminating M&E results. 7. Others: Undertake other responsibilities and tasks, as required.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Advanced University degree in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications or other relevant field.

WORK EXPERIENCE: Minimum 5 years of experience with a minimum 3 years of professional experience in communications related fields.

LANGUAGE: Fluency in spoken and written English and Bangla is required; Knowledge of Rohingya dialect is an added advantage.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

 Experience in design and implementing advocacy and communication campaigns in development and emergency contexts.  Communications skills and techniques in media, social media, campaigns, content production, etc.  Problem solving and analytical skills.  Written and verbal communications and interpersonal skills.  Ability to translate technical language into compelling and easy-to-digest communication products.  Ability to work under pressure and as a part of a team.  Knowledge and familiarity with the political, social and economic context of Bangladesh.  Knowledge of food security, nutrition, resilience and other related fields a plus.  Experience working with development, humanitarian and media organizations a plus.  Familiarity with WFP and other UN agencies’ work a plus.
