Org. Setting and Reporting This temporary position is located in the Office of the Director, Division of Conference Management, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management, United Nations Office at Geneva. The incumbent reports directly to the Director and works in close collaboration with the Special Assistant to the Director, Executive Officer and the Chiefs of Services.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority and in accordance with agreed priorities, the Communications Officer (Design and Multimedia) will be responsible for the following duties:

COMMUNICATION STRATEGY: Develops and manages the digital strategy across electronic platforms. Takes the lead in strategy, planning, development and implementation of communications campaigns and outreach activities to increase awareness of DGACM Geneva. Develops and monitors an overall DGACM Geneva outreach and communications strategy in close collaboration with relevant parts of the Office. Cultivates and supports communication with DGACM Geneva clients and end users to maximize impact of promotional objectives. Advises and provides guidance to all DGACM Geneva Services on how to ensure that their work and activities are communicated and used effectively across the Office; Acts as a resource and adviser for DGACM management on outreach and internal communications related to the Conference Today and Tomorrow 2 including preparation and maintenance of publicly accessible information materials on the ‘CTT-2’ event.

COMMUNICATION CHANNELS: Continuously reviews DGACM communication channels and digital products and identifies areas for improvement, increased functionality, better technical performance and greater user- friendliness. Collaborates with relevant parts of the Office on innovative systems and tools for outreach and communication campaigns; explores options for additional offline and online tools (including video and social networking tools). In close collaboration with The Design and Multimedia Unit, prepares and oversees preparation of a diverse range of innovative information communications products such as landing web pages, multimedia presentations, virtual reality experiences, promotional videos, explainers and social media stories. Contributes to the organizational social media activities through close collaboration with social media focal points in UNOG and DGACM New York; curates and creates relevant and engaging content, telling a story consistent with the organizational objectives. Identifies and visualizes relevant data in innovative ways through a narrative using appropriate digital tools. Collaborates with the UN Geneva Website Editorial Board and co-manage existing DGACM Geneva webpages to ensure compliance with the organizational positioning and objectives and creative storytelling. Develops methods for enhancing quality use of email communications within the DGACM Office.

ORGANIZATIONAL LEARNING: Acts as a first point-of-contact for DGACM communication inquiries and requests for advice. Advises and supports relevant parts of the Office on steps to ensure DGACM effective communications – including the development and maintenance of strategic products and materials. In collaboration with UNOG focal point for communication, supports the DGACM Office in the development, dissemination, implementation and review of guidance for DGACM internal communication. Stays up-to-the date with the latest trends, best practices and tools in the field of digital communications.

EVENT PLANNING: Supports the planning and execution of internal DGACM Geneva events, such as commemorations, social gathering or open days organized by the DGACM Geneva Director. Researches and proposes ideas for promotional events and trainings that would increase the visibility of DGACM Geneva. Represents DGACM Geneva in meetings and conferences, makes presentation to groups on the division’s activities.

Education Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations or a related area is required. Experience in working with digital communication and production tools (Adobe Premier, Adobe XD, Adobe InDesign and Final Cut), and multimedia is required. Experience in working in large international organizations is desirable. Experience in event management, as well as in writing for a variety of audiences, is desirable. Experience in newswriting and news producing is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and knowledge of French are required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is desirable.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
