Background Information - Job-specific

UNOPS is implementing a project in Beirut and Bourj Hammoud funded by Germany through KfW Development Bank. The project aims at improving the access to critical municipal services and increasing the resilience of the Beirut and Bourj Hammoud municipalities affected by the explosion. The project has three components that are implemented through an extensive community engagement approach. The three components are:

  1. The rehabilitation and construction works will be targeting public and municipal buildings and infrastructure such as parks, water/ sewage networks, streets etc.
  2. A capacity building component was embedded in the project targeting municipality staff. It includes provision of equipment to ensure operation and maintenance of the rehabilitation works and provision of training related to the works. Training topics might include but not limited to, operation and maintenance, conflict sensitivity and more.
  3. UNOPS will award grants to local CBOs/NGOs for projects promoting social cohesion. Potential involvement of local communities in the operations, cleaning, and maintenance of project interventions such as public spaces will be explored in order to further enhance the sustainability of the project.

Purpose and Scope of Assignment

The purpose of this consultancy is to support the designing and branding of the project and UNOPS efforts through various possible communications and visibility material, including development of communications texts and graphics appropriate for the general public. The aim of the branding, promotional material and visibility is to effectively communicate the added value of UNOPS projects, showcase UNOPS work, engage stakeholders and promote interactive awareness raising on related topics in addition to, raise the profile of UNOPS in Lebanon.

Under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Project Manager and Communications and Community Engagement Officer, the Graphic Designer will support the production and dissemination of graphics materials about UNOPS for external audiences.

The consultant is an individual. The consultant will be on call and will be responsible for delivering the following products:

  • Deliver creative graphics and technical solutions, design products and publications such as reports, brochures and infographics in InDesign, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Illustrator and Word adhering to UNOPS brand manual
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the layout of reports and publications, the development of new graphics solutions and design of innovative interactive products.
  • Conceptualizing complex ideas and providing creative designs.
  • Assist in the production of visual materials to support the design and development needs of the project, including:
  • Creating the project’s visual identity including the logo and name.
  • Providing graphic and logo designs on promotional and branding material, such as water bottles, coffee cups, bags, clothing, stationary, banner and rollups, audio and visual presentations, reports, signboards, etc.

UNOPS will be conducting various requests for design based on need. It is expected for the consultant to deliver on the requests within 1 week maximum (7 calendar days). Within the 1 week timeframe the consultant should also take into consideration time for approval, any amendments needed and final delivery of the final product. The consultant will only be responsible for the design whereas printing, promotion etc. will fall under the responsibility of UNOPS.

Consultant is expected to handover the final product as well as all the drafts created and used during the contract duration as UNOPS has the right to all original works under the contract.

The consultant will provide a pricing list of the visibility items mentioned above. The consultant will be paid per each design delivered according to shared invoices. Each invoice is expected to be processed and paid within 30 calendar days. Payment is through bank transfer in USD.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree in graphic design, fine arts, visual communications or related areas.

Experience:

  • At least two (2) years of relevant experience in Graphic Design is required, including experience in designing, branding and producing visibility material.
  • A diverse portfolio of work demonstrating a wide range of visual products targeted to specific audiences is required.
  • Knowledge of digital media, visual communications and interactive storytelling methods is required.

  • Proven professional experience in using Creative Cloud software, especially InDesign is required.

  • Illustrator and Photoshop professional experience in web management platforms including Drupal and Wordpress is required.
  • Proven professional experience in content development, report writing in English, related to development, urban issues, sustainability and related topics is desired .
  • An understanding of development, humanitarian or international affairs is desired.

Language requirement:

  • Full working knowledge of English and Arabic is required.
  • Knowledge of the French and Armenian language is an asset.
