This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the supervision of the Chief of Communication, the international UN Volunteer will undertake the following functions:

  • Assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the advocacy and communication strategy to promote respect for children’s and women’s rights, and support UNICEF's mission in the country with a focus on education.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the Partnership to Strengthen the Education System - a partnership between UNICEF and the EU - by providing key communications support to the UNICEF education team. This includes communications activity planning, development of human-interest stories, blog posts and social media content to promote PSES in Lao PDR and internationally and to the promotion of shared EU-UNICEF education messaging. In addition, this role involves support to Partnership to Strengthen the Education System (PSES) donor reporting including the collation of annual communications achievements as part of reporting to the EU.
  • Help raise awareness about challenges facing the education sector in Lao PDR and come up with innovative communication approaches.
  • Assist in producing campaigns and graphic design content for social media, such as fact graphs, info graphs, and other documents that require simple design such as brochures for donor communication and advocacy purposes with a focus on education.
  • Help disseminate studies, research and data on the successes and challenges facing the education sector in Lao PDR to different audiences.
  • Assist Communication and Education sections in events, launches, campaigns, and other key communication activities.
  • Lead in moderating social media platforms, engage with UNICEF's social media audience, and respond to online queries.
  • Conduct social media analysis for UNICEF Lao PDR platforms, measure audience engagement and contribute to building UNICEF’s social media fan base through assessment of key audiences, content planning, content management, search engine optimization, analytics and assessment of effectiveness of platforms and content.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • Type of degree: Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Social Sciences, or similar

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

2 years of professional experience relevant to communication, print and broadcast media or interactive digital media, at either the national or international level

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Laotian(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

  • Proficiency in using computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite, email/internet, other IT applications;
