The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) - one of the world's largest multilateral funds – uses climate finance to help low and middle-income countries accelerate low-carbon, climate-resilient development. CIF supports an inclusive and just climate-smart future, focusing on diverse partnerships that de-risk green markets and unlock additional investments and financing.

To date, 15 contributor countries have pledged over US$11 billion to CIF. CIF investments have mobilized an additional US$64 billion in co-financing in over 70 recipient countries. Since its start, CIF has worked in the areas of clean technologies, energy access, climate resilience, and sustainable forests. And now, after identifying the next frontier of climate challenges, CIF is investing in five new areas: the transition from coal, climate-smart cities, nature-based solutions, industry decarbonization, and renewable energy integration. The CIF's success is premised on a solid partnership with national governments, citizen groups and communities, private sector sponsors, the CIF governing bodies, and the six multilateral development banks that serve as co-financiers and implementing agencies of CIF.

At the center of this collaboration is the CIF Secretariat hosted by The World Bank which supports the work of the CIF governing bodies, including strategy and policy development as well as reporting; manages internal and external institutional relations as well as strategic partnerships; supports program development; delivers a large program of thought leadership, knowledge and learning work; is responsible for portfolio risk management and new private sector capital mobilization modalities and initiatives.

Duties and Accountabilities:

The ideal candidate will: • have demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while regularly reporting progress and risks to senior management. • have a proven track record in managing media. • be practical in their approach to work with an emphasis on simplicity of communications. • have the ability to work independently, seeking guidance on complex projects issues from more senior staff. • have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating evidence of ability to work well in a cross-functional team. • demonstrate proven planning and organizational skills, with the know-how to get things done, particularly under tight deadlines. • have excellent oral and written communication skills. Spoken and written fluency in English required and French/Spanish desirable.

Roles and responsibilities:

Reporting to the Senior Communications Officer – Communications Team Lead of the Climate Investment Funds (CIF), this position will collaborate with and provide hands-on communications support to key leaders across the Secretariat and manage media relations. Specific responsibilities include: In collaboration with the Senior Communications Officer – Communications Team Lead, support the implementation of the CIF communications strategy, including MDB communications; media and stakeholder outreach; and activities to promote better understanding of the CIF’s mandate and programs. This shall include:

Programs Communications Support:

• Working closely with CIF communications lead, program leads and team members to support delivery of CIF’s communications and business objectives. • Prepare and/or oversee the preparation and dissemination of high-quality communications products related to programs, including but not limited to campaigns, web stories, web copy, press releases, social media messages, videos, talking points, thought leadership articles radio and TV broadcasts, PowerPoint presentations, brochures, factsheets etc. • Initiate campaigns and key initiatives; proactively identify communications opportunities for CIF and build a strong pipeline of materials for the communications calendar. • Support program teams on communications for CIF events and high level international events. Media Relations: • Serve as CIF media relations officer, coordinating closely with the communications lead, technical experts, senior management and relevant partners to ensure strategic media coverage and reputational risk management. • Monitor and advise CIF teams on trends, news, or changing/unexpected circumstances that may impact CIF and its work and help determine strategic responses. • Coordinate and manage delivery of CIF media relations plans. • Work closely with key external partners to help position the CIF on climate finance priority issues.

Resource Management:

• Identify, procure and manage external consultants and vendors providing communications support to CIF, such as video producers, photographers, graphic designers, and writers as required.

Selection Criteria

• Master’s degree in communications, public relations or a related field is required with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience • Proven track record with media relations, preparing spokespeople for media engagement, managing reputational risks and issues, and messaging. • Experience working in a multi-discipline fast paced environment, delivering high quality strategic advice and communications products. • Strong teamwork, flexibility, and adaptability, and ability to successfully navigate complex issues and challenges in a multi-stakeholder, multi-cultural environment. • Awareness of the climate finance architecture and experience of working with the multilateral development banks. • Ability to think strategically and coordinate with high-level stakeholders such as public officials, civil society leaders, and senior management. • Experience drafting complex communications products in accessible ways for a range of audiences. • Have demonstrated ability to learn and adopt new technology quickly and use it effectively. • Have advanced proficiency in Microsoft Windows applications, including Excel, Word, and Power Point, and the World Bank's standard technology packages, and familiarity with the Internet and web-based research. • Proven working knowledge and application of social media communications principles and other web 2.0 technologies.
