OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

TheDivision of Country Health Policies and Systems (CPS) assists countries in theRegion with the design and implementation of appropriate health policies andsystems to strengthen universal health coverage. It works to strengthendata-driven, evidence-informed, contextually tailored health policy developmentand implementation at national, regional and local levels, taking an inclusiveapproach across the life course. The Division advocates strengthening of publichealth leadership, focusing on implementing policies that are people centred,promote health, prevent illness, and address the social and economicdeterminants of health, while fostering leadership on equity, human rights andgender mainstreaming in health. It focuses on building capacity for healthsystems innovation to enable the sustainable delivery of high-quality primaryhealth and community services that are effectively linked to hospitals, andmental health, public health and social care services. To do so, CPS supportscountry efforts to facilitate access so as to leave nobody behind, to improvefinancial protection, to strengthen the health workforce, to increase access toaffordable medicines and technologies, and to promote the uptake andimplementation of digital technology.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Thepurpose of this position is to produce accurate, time-sensitive and engagingnews and content on WHO/EURO's work in the area of health systems and policiesin the European region for multiple communications channels and platforms. Theaim of this work is to enhance the visibility and impact of the technicalprogrammes and activities carried out by WHO/EURO across the health systemsspectrum, both at the national and regional levels.Key duties: News developmentSourcing, developing andwriting relevant, accurate, time-sensitive and engaging news from across theCPS Division for WHO/Europe communications channels and platforms; Researching multiple internaland external sources for possible news products/subjects, taking account ofWHO's regional and global health goals and priorities; Social media managementDeveloping and posting newsocial media content including graphics/visuals; Adapting when relevantexisting communications products to social media platforms; Producing social mediatoolkits for strategic campaigns/activities/events and disseminating amongpartners and Country Offices; Providing content and strategicguidance to CPS technical programmes on the use of WHO/EURO's social mediaaccounts and regular liaising with WHO/EURO corporate communications team,ensuring alignment of all messages with WHO/EURO corporate communication goalsand practices.Analytics and reportingDeveloping criteria andbenchmarks for social media analytics and producing regular social mediaanalytics reports in collaboration with the WHO/EURO corporate communicationsteam; Providing recommendations forimprovement and lessons learned to CPStechnical programmes with the aim of enhancing the impact of CPS division'scommunications.Targeted events supportSupport CPS units with relevant communicationwork at key events of the organization involving the CPS Division such asministerial conferences, high-level meetings and other key visibility events,by leading the production of: social media material, pitches to the media,multimedia content and news/human impact stories.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: University degree (bachelor's level) incommunications, journalism, media or other related field. Desirable: Advanced university degree (Master's level) in the above-mentioned areas.

Experience

Essential: At least two years of experience in communications in an internationalsetting. Writing/journalistic experience Desirable: Relevant experience in the area of communicationswith WHO or other international organizations with focus on public health.Experience coordinating multilingual communicationactivities and campaigns. Experience within WHO or the United Nations indelivering communications trainings.

Skills

Excellent writing and editingskills. Demonstrated knowledge ofcommunication key concepts, strategies and methods. Proficient knowledge of socialmedia platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.Knowledge of the work of WHOand the UN. Desirable: demonstratedknowledge of basic graphic design and editing. Demonstrated knowledge ofmultimedia production, in particular video and photography production. Ability to work in afast-paced environment.Ability to identify and manage one's ownemotions, as well as helping others to do the same.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 50,377 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3157 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
