Initial duration of the contract: one year with the possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance. 1. ***BACKGROUND*** The work of the Section of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is organized around the three major pillars: - Leading and coordinating the global agenda: to influence global processes related to major sustainability challenges on the role of education as a solution (e.g. climate crisis, biodiversity loss and growing socio-economic inequalities, etc.) and consolidate the partnerships with key education and sustainable development stakeholders. - Providing guidance, standards, and technical support: to develop institutional capacity at the country level. - Monitoring & evaluation: to develop evidence informed advocacy, policy and practice. HOW TO APPLY ------------ 2. **DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS** Under the overall authority of Director of Division for Peace and Sustainable Development and under the direct supervision of Chief, Section of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) the incumbent will be in charge of the following areas of work: 1. Contribute to development and delivery of strategic communications plans, activities, products and processes: - Develop coherent external and internal communications for the ESD Section, and identify key audiences, key messages and relevant media to use. - Manage and oversee the Section’s external communications and visibility through UNESCO platforms (web and social media) both at HQ and in collaboration with regional and field offices. - Write and edit text for websites, newsletters, social media, media, presentations, speeches. - Ensure all website content is updated. - Contribute to the development of relevant partnerships for communications including with UN agencies or other stakeholders for joint communications, especially in link with the ESD for 2030 framework and the Greening Education Partnership. - Monitor and measure effectiveness of communications. Support external visibility and advocacy for key themes under Education for Sustainable Development - Contribute the strategic planning and delivery of activities for advocacy on key thematic areas of relevance on ESD through reviewing the key events and global processes, developing communications plans and products for partnership development and resource mobilization. - Contribute the development of tools or publications for advocacy - Conceive of and develop major communications and advocacy campaigns in collaboration with the colleagues Long Description ---------------- 3. Oversight of the development, production, dissemination, and storage of publications and communications documents - Oversee the management of Section publications, including leading on the development of the publication plan, liaison with concerned services. - Manage, and oversee the design, production, legal agreements, translation and publications. **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** ***Education*** Advanced university degree (equivalent to Masters) in communication, media or related. ***Work Experience*** At least 4 years of relevant professional experience, of which preferably 2 years acquired at the international level. ***Languages*** Excellent level (oral and written) of English is essential. **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- ***Skills/Competencies*** - Excellent English writing skills, ability to draft for different types of audiences and different platforms (eg press releases, social media, technical content) - Excellent strategic, analytical and communications skills - Demonstrated skills in communications and partnerships with government, civil society, UN and/or other stakeholders - Excellent coordination and networking skills, experience in advocacy or influencing - Good interpersonal skills and ability to maintain good working relations with colleagues and staff at all levels within as well as outside the organization - Task- and results-oriented with ability to prioritize and organize work - Very good organizational skills, tact and discretion - Ability to adapt to a range of projects and to work in a team - Ability to work in an international, multicultural environment - Track record of articles, blogs, or other communication materials. **DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS** ---------------------------- - Good knowledge on education for sustainable development, and climate change education is an asset. - Relevant professional experience in UN System or at the international level. - Working knowledge of French. **SELECTION AND RECRUITMENT PROCESS** ------------------------------------- Please note that all candidates must complete an on-line application and provide complete and accurate information.
