You have:

  • University degree in communications, marketing, international affairs or related subject. In the absence of a degree, extensive professional experience and proven results in those areas; Master’s degree is an asset.
  • Between 5-10 years relevant professional communications experience.
  • Proven track record in communications projects and high-profile campaign management.
  • Demonstrable success in development and implementation of successful communications strategies.
  • High proficiency in English both written and verbal, and the ability to communicate in Myanmar language.
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively to tight deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Experience working in an NGO or an international environmental organization is desirable but not essential.
  • Must be able to travel within Myanmar’s challenging terrains and internationally as needed.

Major Function

The Myanmar National Communications Manager will be based in Yangon, Myanmar and is responsible for all WWF-Myanmar’s communications work to reach and catalyze support and change in key constituencies for our conservation agenda. The Communications Manager is responsible for implementing the communications and campaign strategies to meet WWF-Myanmar's goals, building key internal and external relationships and playing an important role in advising the Country Management team.

II. Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the development of the communications strategy for WWF-Myanmar and lead its implementation., ensuring integration and alignment with the country office strategy, and targeting key audiences to build visibility, meeting our goals and support for WWF-Myanmar’s work.

  • Create and implement campaigns that support WWF-Myanmar’s conservation objectives which catalyse support and change in key constituencies.

  • Manage WWF-Myanmar digital communications, including social media, website, multimedia storytelling and analytics, ensuring audience growth, engagement and impact measurement.

  • Represent WWF-Myanmar at a national, regional and global level (as and when needed) for communications ensuring Myanmar maintains a leading profile in the WWF network.

  • Support, develop and adapt regional and global communications products and initiatives to support the national, regional and global conservation agenda.

  • Protect the WWF-Myanmar brand and reputation by providing a “radar function” on emerging issues, crises and brand attacks, briefing the Country Management Team on potential issues and supporting crisis management procedures in the event of a crisis by working with the Country Director and Regional Communications team.

  • Manage communications and campaign budgets, preparing project descriptions and progress reports on a timely basis, as mutually agreed, with the Country Director, Conservation Director and other stakeholders.

  • Support Network Donor relations, working closely with Country Director, Conservation Director and related technical team.

  • Ensure ethical storytelling practices, including informed consent, safeguarding compliance, and do-no-harm principles in all communications materials.

  • Ensures consistent application of brand guidelines across all communications, supports standardization of materials, and provides clear guidance to maintain a strong and coherent brand identity.

III. Working Relations

Internal: WWF-MM Senior Communications Officer/s, WWF-MM Country Director, WWF-MM Conservation Director, WWF-MM Strategic Engagement Director, WWF-MM Operations Director, WWF-Asia Pacific Head of Communications and Advocacy, WWF-MM Conservation colleagues, and communications and fundraising colleagues across the WWF Network.

External: Consultants, media, creative agencies, corporate stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • University degree in communications, marketing, international affairs or related subject. In the absence of a degree, extensive professional experience and proven results in those areas; Master’s degree is an asset.

  • Between 5-10 years relevant professional communications experience;

  • Proven track record in communications projects and high-profile campaign management

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrable success in development and implementation of successful communications strategies

  • Demonstrable success running communications at high level international fora

  • Familiarity with a broad range of communication and digital tools, and an understanding of their suitability for an organization like WWF. Examples include Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Word, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, CapCut, Dropbox, OneDrive, Meltwater, Mailchimp and Google Analytics

  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively to tight deadlines without compromising quality

  • Team leadership/management skills. Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to develop relationships with a wide range of audiences

  • Articulate, creative with design skills and knowledge, passionate, flexible and tenacious. Skills include storytelling, writing, editing, content development, message framing, audience insight, strategic communication planning, media relations, digital content production and stakeholder engagement

  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, supported by good computer and digital/social media skills

  • Must have high proficiency in English both written and verbal, and the ability to communicate in Myanmar language

  • Attention to detail, diplomacy and discretion

  • Interest in conservation and environmental issues

  • Experience working in an NGO or an international environmental organization is desirable but not essential. Candidates from the private sector or corporate communications are also welcome

  • Must be able to travel within Myanmar’s challenging terrains and internationally as needed.

  • Skilled in managing team member and in supporting their growth, performance and professional development
