This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under relevant supervision, the UN Volunteer will:

1. Lead the implementation of the Communications Strategy for the UN Presence at Expo 2020

* Develop communications materials related to the UN’s presence over the course of Expo 2020.

* Manage inputs for social media dissemination of events and initiatives held by the UN at Expo 2020.

* Work with the United Nations Country Team and the RCO to maximize communications and public relations opportunities for the UN at Expo 2020.

* Using video and still photography, document UN engagements at Expo 2020.

* Work with the RCO in leading the development of a UN in the UAE exhibit and film depicting the historical relationship of the UN and the UAE.

* Lead the production of a final report for public dissemination on all activities and initiatives held by the UN at Expo 2020.

2. Provide communications support to the commemoration of United Nations Day (“Honour Day”) to be held on 24 October 2021

* Support the Project Manager with the communications aspects of the commemoration of UN Day.

* Provide communications on-ground support to the UN Secretariat’s Department of Global Communications in New York on the UN Day activities managed by their office, including a projection in Al-Wasl Dome.

3. Act as Project Manager – UN Presence at Expo 2020 Ad Interim

* Support the Project Manager and Operations Manager in the implementation of their duties, including acting as on site Project Manager or Operations Manager ad interim if/when required.

4. The UNV will also perform any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Educational additional comments

  • University Degree in communications or a related field. Studies or experience in project management, event management, communications, or a related area

Experience remark

  • At least two years of professional work experience in communications or a related area;
  • Demonstrated experience in videography, video production or video editing is highly desirable;
  • Graphic design skills and proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (i.e Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Lightroom, XD, Rush.) are desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Have affinity with or interest in the work of the United Nations, and volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development.
