Overview

Assist with communication products, research, and event preparations.

You have:

  • Enrollment in or completion of a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or enrollment in or completion of the final academic year of a first university degree programme in communications, journalism, public relations or related field.
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. This internship is located within the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel (STAP) Secretariat in Washington, DC. STAP provides independent scientific and technical advice to the GEF on its policies, strategies, programs, and projects. Under the supervision of the Communication Focal Point, the selected intern will perform duties to include, but not limited to, the following: -Assist with the production of communication products, including conducting research, compiling information, and coordinating logistics; -Assist with drafting news articles, and updating the STAP website; -Assist with content and design of social media posts and conduct analysis of social media metrics; -Assist with preparations for events, photography, and talking points; compile, analyze, and organize data for office reports; -Attend meetings and draft summaries; -Perform other tasks as necessary.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in communications, journalism, public relations or related field. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
