To achieve that vision, the IRC’s Program Quality Unit (PQU) provides technical assistance to IRC’s country program staff and shares what we learn to influence policy and practice.

The IRC’s vision is to lead the humanitarian field by implementing high-impact, cost-effective programs for people affected by crisis and by using our learning and experience to shape policy and practice. To achieve that vision, the IRC’s Technical Excellence (TE) group, located within the Crisis Response, Recovery and Development (CRRD) Department, provides technical assistance to IRC’s country program staff and shares what we learn to influence policy and practice.

The Health Unit is a dynamic team of more than 70 professionals in Primary Health Care, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Mental Health, Nutrition, and Environmental Health/WASH. They provide IRC’s 40 plus country offices and emergency response team with world class technical expertise, capacity building and a cross country view of what works to achieve health outcomes. They also lead focused research agenda, influencing donor policy to support interventions and innovations proven cost effective to achieve positive change in people’s lives.

Project Scope:The IRC health unit communications intern will provide support to assigned work streams as per the below list. S/He will check in with the designated focal point for each work stream on a regular basis to provide updates, seek clarification as needed.

Specific Responsibilities:

- · Support proof reading and copy-editing of technical documents - ·Support internal communications, including newsletters, presentations, blogs, website - · Attend health unit and primary healthcare team meetings to build capacity and capture learning

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the period, the intern will have:

- Enhanced writing and editing skills for technical and non-technical audiences - Increased ability to expand and diversify the voices amplified through IRCs health communications work - Improved understanding of health programming & innovations in humanitarian settings

Job Requirements:

·Work Experience:

- Experience producing external communications products; - Experience drafting web articles and social media posts; - Some experience communicating on health topics and/or health-focused research (desirable)

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

- ·Excellent written and verbal communications skills; - ·Ability to process and synthesize key findings from data/research; - ·Strong and adaptive writing skills, including ability to develop presentations.

Language Skills:

- Fluency in English essential.
