Austria Multi-Country Office (AUMCO)

The Austria Multi-Country Office (AUMCO) is part of the UNOPS Europe and Central Asia Region (ECR). Specifically, AUMCO aims to enable the achievement of Agenda 2030 and the Paris Agreement through global programmes and tailored interventions in the Balkans, South Caucasus, and Central Asia, focused on Infrastructure, Procurement, Project Management (full service, back on track), HR and Transactional Services, Grants Management and Technical and Advisory Services.

Uzbekistan Office

Under the purview of AUMCO, the UNOPS Uzbekistan Office, established in Tashkent in October 2022 supports the Government of Uzbekistan’s development efforts in the country, through the provision of effective project management, infrastructure and procurement services. At present, the office has signed and has been implementing three engagements contributing to SGD3 (Good Health and Wellbeing), while actively working with the Government of Uzbekistan and development partners in diversifying its portfolio in line with the country’s development priorities including education.

Project Information

The project “Uzbekistan COVID-19 Emergency Response Project” with the Republic of Uzbekistan's Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health Service (SES). Funded through two major loans from the Asian Development Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. In this project, UNOPS will support the Government of Uzbekistan in upgrading up to 54 existing laboratory and treatment facilities across the country, procuring diagnostic equipment and supplies, and establishing an ICT system for monitoring the epidemiological situation to strengthen preparedness and resilience to the COVID-19 pandemic and other epidemics.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Communications Associate, the Communications Intern will work in the Communications Unit based in Tashkent. The role will focus primarily on producing communications materials and reports for UNOPS Uzbekistan`s portfolio of projects covering a range of development sectors. The work of Project Implementations is diverse and requires a significant level of multitasking.

The intern will be required to deliver high-quality products to tight deadlines. Additionally, the Communications Intern will also closely coordinate with other programs, infrastructure, public health, and procurement units.

We are seeking qualified applicants who have strong communication, planning, and coordination skills. The successful candidate must be client/service oriented as well as structured, organized, and detail-oriented.

Duties and responsibilities

Specific intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in writing, editing, and proofreading high-quality copy for external news stories, newsletters, factsheets, and project websites;
  • Assist in management of social media platforms and website content; monitoring social media trends and best practices to propose innovative ideas for content and engagement strategies;
  • Contribute ideas for upcoming social media campaigns and content themes; helping maintain a content calendar to ensure timely and consistent posting on various social media platforms;
  • Create written, image-based, and video content for various social media platforms;
  • Assisting in taking video footage and editing it into visually appealing videos for social media campaigns, promotional materials and other communication channels;
  • Capture high-quality photos to be used in social media posts, website content, and marketing materials;
  • Assist in monitoring the performance of social media posts, videos, and other content, and provide insights through analytics tools. Contributing to the design of information, education, and communication materials;
  • Support in the management, as well as effective and timely implementation of key communication activities as outlined in the annual communication plan;
  • Assist in strengthening stakeholder engagement by supporting organization of stakeholder meetings, activities, and other related events; Maintaining an updated database of stakeholders;
  • Performing other duties requested by the Communications Associate.

Terms and Conditions

UNOPS Uzbekistan will provide the intern with the following:

  • Workspace in a shared office including computer, stationery, and landline telephone
  • Use of common office facilities, as for all UNOPS personnel
  • A monthly stipend from UNOPS in the amount of USD540, if they do not receive funds from other institutions. However, interns must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel, and insurance coverage.

The internship comes with no expectations of future employment with UNOPS as a direct result of the internship. The internship is offered for a period of 6 months with the possibility of extension up to 1 year.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

a. Education

  • Enrolment in a University Degree or significant coursework (if the degree is still ongoing) in journalism, media studies, communications, development, or a related field is required.
  • Applicants who have graduated from such studies within the past 36 months will also be considered eligible for the position.

b. Work experience

  • Writing and editorial skills are desirable. Applicants must be fluent in English and be able to write clearly and concisely in the language;
  • Computer literacy: Working knowledge of Google Suite will be advantageous;
  • Journalism/communications experience is desirable;
  • Basic knowledge of social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn;
  • Knowledge of demonstrated interest in development work is an asset
  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, and video editing software is an asset
  • Knowledge of Content Management System (CMS) is an asset

c. Languages

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Fluency in Uzbek and/or Russian is required.
