Overview

Background

UNDP’s Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD), supports the private sector and foundations to become transformative partners in development through research, advocacy for inclusive business, facilitation of public-private dialogue, and multi stakeholder-partnerships. IICPSD was established in 2011 in partnership with the Government of Turkey. The Center’s work to engage foundations and the private sector focuses on delivering policy advisory and technical services in four thematic areas: Private Sector Engagement through South-South Cooperation for the SDGs; Digital Transformation and Skills Development; Impact Investing; and Resilience and Crisis Response.

Furthermore, the Center supports the UNDP’s Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) by leading UNDP’s strategic offer to partner and work with the private sector.

Duties and Responsibilities

UNDP IICPSD is looking for a Communications Intern. The intern will support social media according to Center’s communications strategy. The approval of all deliverables and instructions for all activities shall be developed in coordination with the IICPSD Strategic Communications Consultant and IICPSD Deputy Director.

Under the supervision of the Communications Analyst, the intern will:

  • Support the development of communications tools such as brochures, infographics, fact-sheets, multi-media assets etc.;
  • Support the daily management of regional social media accounts (Twitter, Linkedin):
    • Writing engaging posts and ensuring regular updates on social media and support with production of other content for social media
    • Personal communications with followers
    • Keeping up to date on new social media tools, best practices and how other organizations and companies are using them in order to identify new campaigning opportunities,
    • Analyzing social media analytics together with the communications team to support the expansion of IICPSD’s reach over social media in the region
  • Support research on specific themes relating to IICPSD mandate;
  • Support the organization and preparation of meetings and events
  • Contribute and ensure the visibility of events, campaigns, and key activities (drafting articles, podcasts, photos, etc.).
  • Support with the production of multimedia content

In addition, the intern may be responsible for the following financial and administrative tasks:

  • To support events’ organization: service providers’ selections (communication agency, hotels, printer, etc.) and elaboration of terms of references, drafting selection minutes, contracts, etc.
  • To follow the reception of deliverables and the services’ providers’ payment;
  • To ensure the shaping of reports and documents;
  • To ensure translations and synthesis.

Competencies

  • Excellent written and spoken English skills
  • Good knowledge of online platforms, and social media outlets including online tools;
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft tools (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Knowledge and understanding of gender and development issues;
  • Knowledge of online campaigns and/or marketing strategies;
  • Strong analytical, research, reporting, and writing abilities
  • Ability to multi-task and address competing priorities;
  • Experience in writing for social media and social media marketing
  • Ability to write for a wide range of audiences
  • Experience in business journalism/reporting or research an asset
  • Experience in using content publishing platforms, CMS, website builders
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office apps, particularly Excel and Word
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design, and other graphic design production tools is an asset.
  • Ability to multi-task and address competing priorities;
  • Ability to manage workload with minimum supervision and collaborate with a wide range of colleagues, while meeting deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: being able to listen and collaborate with a wide range of players, working in an international environment, being pro-active and taking initiative and responsibility

Experience

  • Experience in writing for the web, planning, and project and events management is desirable
  • Experience in website management, content creation, digital communications is preferred
  • Experience with web-based applications, basics of HTML, as well as video and photo editing and design software is preferred

Language:

  • Strong spoken and written English is required;
  • Knowledge of another UN language is an asset;

Required Skills and Experience

Eligibility:

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);

(b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);

(c) Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one year of graduation;

The intern must submit a document of graduation if graduated.

Education:

Enrolled in or graduated from journalism, marketing, communication, or other related fields

Conditions:

  • UNDP interns receive a monthly stipend during the assignment based on Istanbul duty station;
  • The intern can work from home;
  • The intern is expected to be reasonably flexible in terms of working schedule as needed;
  • The intern must provide proof of enrolment in a health insurance plan;
  • The intern must provide proof of university enrolment and if graduated must submit a document of graduation;
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship;
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
