JOB PURPOSE

The Communications & Graphic Design Specialist will work under the supervision of the Communications Officer for the design needs of WFP Iraq, support the implement the communications plan by delivering a range of communications products. The position could be based in either Erbil or Baghdad.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Generate visibility content including, text, photos, videos, and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms, to support global and country fund-raising activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages.
  • Design and produce communications materials for the Country Office. These include joint reports, brochures, social media cards, posters, signs in Arabic, Kurdish, and English. These country specific communication products must be designed to maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP, as well as support fundraising activities, ensuring alignment with overall communications and WFP strategies.
  • Provide Graphic Design technical expertise for: converting complex data into attractive visual charts and graphs, including Presentations, communicating complex messages in an engaging manner (e.g. social and behaviour change communication SBCC material for varied audiences including schoolchildren) effectively communicating Key Messages to people assisted through sensitisation material.
  • Organise, monitor, and prioritize Graphic Design inputs to ensure that they will fulfil the needs of internal and external partners
  • Organise and maintain final publication digital assets for production in an archive available to the rest of the team.
  • Implement practical methods or tools for Graphic Design work processes and productivity. Innovate and contribute new ideas for design-related communication solutions.
  • Support the social media plan by developing social media content, and utilising platforms, networks, and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities.
  • Contribute to WFP’s external communications plan through good research, analysis of assigned area of work and timely preparation and distribution of information products to target audience(s).
  • Monitor and analyse traditional and social media to inform the development and/or evaluation of communication activities and strategies.
  • Help organise / track visibility requirements for the donor and partners.
  • Act as a focal point for print media and online-design for the Country Office.
  • Perform other related design tasks for the Country Office as required

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Specialised training and/or degree in a discipline relevant to fine arts, applied arts or graphic design, communications.

Experience: At least 2 years of relevant work experience in the field of Communications, Marketing and Graphic Design/layout/publication productions (demonstrable portfolio and expertise).

National Professional: Fluency (level C) in English and Arabic, ability to read/work in Kurdish an asset.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Excellent command of Adobe Creative Suite Package especially InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator.
  • Advanced knowledge of computing, particularly Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Sets high levels of quality and productivity for self.
  • Good organisational skills, accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail are essential, such as tracking feedback/requests from different colleagues.
  • Ability to handle pressure and balance a busy workload.
  • Analyses and integrates verbal, numerical, and other types of data. Equally, able to communicate complex material in a simple manner for new audiences.
  • Proactive, self-starter: able to suggest ideas, troubleshoot and make recommendations to deliver effective or new design solutions, or improve design quality.
  • Flexible and adaptable. Excellent interpersonal skills as may be working with external partners on joint materials and design needs.
  • Open to learning and excelling in new skills for visibility e.g. video editing on Wochit, card editing with Canva.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Position Title: Communications & Graphic Design Specialist - Baghdad / Erbil

Contract duration: Up to 1 year, renewable.

Duty Station/travel: Baghdad or Erbil with travel inside Iraq and occasionally abroad

Remuneration will take into account current earnings and experience.
