Result of Service 2. Objective.

The overall objective of the consultancy is to respond to the growing communicational demands of governments and other key stakeholders in the Sub-Region. Therefore, UNEP needs to effectively communicate and share results and outcomes, including best practices and lessons learned, of national and regional projects, implemented and/or executed by UNEP in the Sub-Region. The consultant will perform the following activities, additional to other relevant communication activities that may arise towards the satisfactory execution of the consultancy: 1. Coordination of national communication teams in UNEP projects in the Southern Cone region. 2. Support the adaptation and dissemination of global, regional and local-level campaigns in relevant UNEP themes for the Southern Cone region. 3. Engage with media and journalists to increase the visibility of UNEP activities in the Southern Cone region. 4. Based on UNEP’s key messages, oversee the production of different communications materials, including factsheets, infographics, videos and social media cards. 5. Support UNEP social media reach development as it relates to the Sub-Regional Office for the Southern Cone of Latin America. 6. Development of briefing notes, speeches and talking points to support the functions of the Sub-Regional Office for the Southern Cone of Latin America. 7. Development of event web pages to foster the dissemination of UNEP activities in the Southern Cone region. 8. Draft high-quality web stories about the milestones of UNEP activities in the Southern Cone region.

Duties and Responsibilities 1. Purpose.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

The UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LAC Office), located in Panama City, works closely with the 33 countries of the region and its activities are integrated into the Medium Term Strategy and the Programme of Work approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA).

UNEP´s Sub-Regional Office for the Southern Cone of Latin America, located in Montevideo, Uruguay, provides support to and coordinates efforts with the Governments of Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. Within its programmatic growth, the Sub-regional Office has increased its commitment to governments and other interested parties, to deepen its analysis of the environmental challenges and opportunities that the sub-region is currently facing.

In this context, the focus is on the implementation of UNEP´s Medium-Term Strategy (2022-2025) that addresses the triple planetary crisis of climate change, loss of nature and pollution. The Sub-Regional Office is well positioned to inform UNEP's corporate policies and plans, through the experiences and lessons learned from working in the 4 countries of the Southern Cone.

To achieve its purposes and respond to the growing demands of governments and other key stakeholders, the Sub-regional Office requires a consultant to develop and contribute media content from the 4 countries of the Southern Cone of Latin America, including the coordination of UNEP communication teams based in national and regional projects in the sub-region. Additionally, the consultant will contribute to update content in relevant websites, and other UNEP thematic websites, including the main web sections relative to specific areas of the subprogramme´s work, events and publications.

The consultant will also assist in the development of briefing notes, speeches and talking points as requested by the needs of the Sub-Regional Office for the Southern Cone of Latin America.

The Communications Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Head of the Sub-regional Office for the Southern Cone of Latin America, with additional guidance by the Head of Communications Unit of the Latin America and Caribbean Office. The job requires a full-time dedication of 40 hours a week, from Monday to Friday. Workstation: Montevideo Office, Uruguay

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: - Master´s Degree in social sciences, communications or related field is required. First-level university degree with two years of additional work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Experience: - A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in journalism, public information or related field. - Experience organizing and coordinating work teams is an asset. - Experience managing inter-institutional relations will be considered an advantage.

Language: - Fluency in Spanish and English is required.

Skills: - Excellent writing and editing skills are required. - Computer skills (MS Office, e-mail, internet, dropbox, web editing) are required. - Experience in photo and video tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe package among other programs) are desirable. - Demonstrated integrity and commitment with UN values and ethical standards. - Demonstrated sensitivity and adaptability to culture, gender, religion, race, nationality, and age. - Ability to promote knowledge management and a learning environment in the workplace. - Builds strong relationships with clients, focuses on impact and outcome for the client, and responds positively to feedback. - Openness to change and ability to manage complex situations. - Strong oral and written communication skills. - Skills for networking, team building, work organization, and communication.
