Key Responsibilities:

As a part of World Vision’s efforts to increase the overall reputation and trust of the organization in Ethiopia, the Humanitarian Emergency Affairs (HEA) Communications Coordinator leads in the development of an emergency communications strategy, ensuring World Vision Ethiopia has increased technical capacity and ability to respond to and manage communications in emergencies. Emergency (HEA) communications are delivering high-quality timely content that is used internally and externally, serving advocacy, marketing, and fundraising needs. Ensure appropriate support and strategic focus on Fragile Contexts and highly sensitive operating environments, in alignment with the global strategy Our Promise. The role will ensure systems and procedures are in place that guarantees the quality assurance of all communications during all emergencies across the country and provides communications technical support and mentoring to Field, TP, Grants, and Head Office communications staff. The role will deploy in a surge capacity for relevant emergency responses as required and support the placement of permanent communications staff in large-scale emergency responses.

  • Develop a contextually appropriate emergency communications strategy and plan that is aligned with World Vision’s global Emergency Management System and Disaster Management 2020 standard.
  • Work to ensure World Vision Ethiopia is better able to respond to emergencies, both rapid and slow-onset, due to ensuring understanding of strategies and plans that in place before emergencies strike
  • Ensure appropriate support and strategic focus on Fragile Contexts and highly sensitive operating environments, in alignment with the global strategy Our Promise.
  • Increase quality and timeliness of emergency communications output
  • Deliver communications resources to Support Offices and the Partnership for reporting, decision-making, and fundraising
  • Conduct communications training for response and other staff
  • Provide quality assurance of all communications during all emergencies across Ethiopia for production, brand, context, and child protection standards
  • Support internal engagement communications and initiatives to ensure staff across Ethiopia are connected, engaged, and inspired to fulfill Our Promise as it relates to [PROJECT NAME]
  • Create high-quality emergency communications resources such as

    • videos for social media, donors, and broadcast documentary content
    • photo stories and essays
    • graphic design materials, such as factsheets, capacity statements, situation reports, publications, and response reports
    • media relations materials such as press releases, statements, and briefings
    • articles and stories social and website deployment
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on emergency communications metrics ensuring data-based decisions lead to increase the effectiveness of digital and web engagement

  • Manage ContentFlow, StoryHub, and other content management systems

  • Ensure the secure and cataloged management of all Communications design digital assets
  • Ensure effective communications job flow and project management with Head Office Communications & Marketing teams such as; Creative Services, Public Engagement, Internal Engagement, Marketing Operations, Supporter Engagement, as well as national level Advocacy campaigns - ensuring calendars, timetables, schedules, and itineraries are kept
