The communications Coordinator will report to the Development Manager and program managers to increase community awareness and improve the IRC internal and external communications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Conduct ongoing public events to highlight the work of the IRC improve fundraising opportunities and create and strengthen partnerships within the community. Represent the IRC. - Identify and cultivate a comprehensive media contact list, proactively pitch stories to local media contacts, develop media partners to showcase the work of the IRC. - Serve as liaison and point of contact between the IRC’s HQ Communications team and the Seattle & Spokane offices. Respond to HQ media requests as appropriate. Identify and prepare clients and staff for interviews with the media. - Ensure the production and distribution of communications materials, including brochures, monthly newsletters, website updates, graphics and press releases that improve visibility to stakeholders, key decision-makers, and other interested parties. - Manage social media accounts for IRC, work with IRC programs to create and curate compelling content that showcases the work of the IRC, consistently grow followers, and increase audience engagement to expand IRC networks, increase brand awareness and improve fundraising opportunities. - Oversee digital fundraising efforts including giving day campaigns, peer to peer online campaigns, and email fundraising appeals, working closely with the Development Manager and IRC program staff. - Produce a weekly IRC newsletter story for internal and external circulation and maintain Seattle & Spokane webpages. - Provide strategic leadership in planning and executing IRC public events including International Women’s Day, World Refugee Day, Welcoming Week, New Americans Celebration, and other awareness raising events. - Provide ongoing advocacy for refugees and the IRC’s programs at the local, state, and federal level. Serve as liaison and point of contact between the IRC’s HQ Advocacy team and the Seattle & Spokane offices. - Monitoring local, state, and federal legislation, maintain legislator relationships, and represent the IRC to legislators. - Represent the IRC to external organizations. - Research and propose for funding to expand above responsibilities and continue the position into future. - Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Bachelor’s Degree in marketing or communications preferred. - Experience working with media, communications/outreach, event planning and/or community organizing. - Strong public speaking and presentation skills. - Persuasive personality with excellent attention to detail and strong follow through. - Familiarity with social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) within a professional context. - Strong writing and editing skills. - Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required; proficiency in graphic design preferred. - Excellent organizational and time management skills. - Strong leader with ability to work independently with minimal direction. - Ability to communicate effectively and work as a team member in a diverse, cross-cultural environment. - Strong interest in international and refugee issues or strong interest to learn.

Internal: Executive Director, Development Team, other resource development staff, all IRC Seattle program teams

External: Media, Partners, Donors, Volunteers, Interns

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

- English proficiency; clear and professional written communication skills and strong editing skills. - Comfortable adapting to changing needs and priorities. - Strong organizational and time management skills. - Ability to work independently. - Familiarity with social media (Facebook, etc.) within a professional context. - Ability to share stories on social media and web platforms clearly and compellingly. - Strong attention to detail, related to documentation, and copyediting. - Experience creating flyers, informational one-pagers, and/or online graphics - Experience with graphic design required. - Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Working Environment:

- A combination of standard office environment & remote work.
