Result of Service The overall objective of the contract is to contribute to UNEP´s Latin America and the Caribbean´s plan of work in digital communications and public information, with the following specific objectives:

1. Translate different types of content such as press releases, infographics, select publications, stories, campaign related content, etc from English to Spanish and make these available on various channels. 2. Revise and edit Spanish text for accuracy and style: 3. Contribute to the establishment of accurate terminology. 4. Provide language services to other Communication Division activities (training, meetings, workshops). Perform other related duties as assigned. 5. Manage language specific channels: 6. Updates content on UNEP Spanish website and all UNEP campaign sites. 7. Ensure relevant content is translated from English to Spanish and posted in a timely manner Proofreads all content posted on the Spanish website. 8. Translates content from English to Spanish for posting on social media channels. 9. Maintains and contributes with original content for UNEP Spanish social media channels. 10. Posts relevant and timely content on social media channels. 11. Engages with Spanish speaking audience on social media channels. 12. Coordinates the media coverage of UNEP´s events in Spanish language: Liaises with news and publications agencies, public relations firms, photographers, etc. to provide advance notice of, and information on, upcoming meetings, briefings and special events. 13. Contributes to the design of communications strategies to disseminate the activities and milestones of UNEP Regional Office in Latin America and the Caribbean. These strategies may include the creation of original content such as press releases, web stories, event pages, social media content and updates in the regional website or the supervision of graphic content -like infographics or factsheets- 14. Contributes to coordinate with national and subregional communications focal points the implementation of global campaigns and the regional work plan. This includes assisting in improving the quality of communications activities organized by UNEP’s offices across the region 15. Manages, updates and further develops internal databases, and evaluation reports: 16. Researches, compiles and presents basic information for use in the preparation and production of communications evaluation reports, and metrics on engagement and audience reach of all communications products in Spanish language.

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for global environment.

The UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office (ROLAC), located in Panama City, works closely with the 33 countries of the region and its activities are integrated into the Medium-Term Strategy and the Programme of Work approved by the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA).

The regional office needs a Communications Consultant for Spanish language, specialized in media and digital content management, who will be responsible for providing support to the Division of Communications´ digital requirements, in particular the management of the www.unep.org/es, UNEP social media in Spanish and translation of websites including support to various special events.

The consultant will also contribute to the design and implementation of the regional communications strategy within the Communications Unit of UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office, which may include assisting in the coordination of the media coverage of UNEP´s events in Spanish language, creating original content such as press releases, web stories, event pages, social media content and updates in the regional website, or supervising the design graphic content -like infographics or factsheets-. The consultant will also assist in the coordination of national and subregional communications focal points for the implementation of global campaigns and the regional work plan. This includes assisting in improving the quality of communications activities organized by UNEP’s offices across the region. In this sense, the Communications Consultant will work 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday, full time with an initial period from home, once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, then at UNEP ROLAC Office located in Panama City, Panama, and will be supervised by the Head of the Regional Communication.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in linguistic studies or journalism, combined with political studies or other related field is required. First-level university degree with four years of additional work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. Experience: A minimum of four (04) years of progressively responsible experience in translation (English/Spanish) and information management/public information, in the area of environment or related field of which one should be at the international level is required. Ability to read and correctly interpret data and also possessing exemplary report writing skills is required. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position fluency in English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
