BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The Financial Reporting Service (FINR) is located in the Corporate Finance Division and oversees corporate financial reporting within WFP. Its main responsibility is the supervision and support of the Contribution Accounting and Donor Financial Reporting Branch (FINC) and General Accounts Branch (FING). In addition, it drives project-related activities such as Reporting Excellence - a key initiative of the Finance Strategy 2024 that focuses on the automation of financial management. This position is a consulting position with a direct reporting line to the Deputy Director, Financial Reporting Service, and functions as a lead for more junior communications staff allocated in the unit. The consultant is required to have specialized knowledge in Communications.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, Financial Reporting, and in close coordination with the Communications Advocacy and Marketing Division (CAM), the consultant will have the following responsibilities:

  • Coordinating and leading communications activities to support FINR and its supervised branches FINC and FING.
  • Liaising with project leads and subject-matter experts to develop and support communication strategies, webinars/trainings to enhance the visibility of FINR initiatives.
  • Designing and implementing communication strategies, awareness campaigns, events, information dissemination workshops to enhance the visibility of FINR activities.
  • Developing written, visual, audio and multi-media content for communications materials and suggestions for improved communications processes.
  • Support capacity building of FINR staff on all aspects of communication, provides advice and guidance within area and level of expertise, in order to ensure that all activities meet desired standards of consistency, quality and impact e.g. training material.
  • Conduct target audience analysis to inform the development and evaluation of communication activities and strategies.
  • Managing and coordinating requests related to communication activities by other stakeholders within FIN or WFP to ensure visibility of FINR activities.
  • Guiding and supervising more junior staff, acting as a point of referral, and supporting them with more complex analysis and querie
  • Contribution to FIN wide working groups, e.g., GSS Advocates, to ensure General Accounts branch participation and visibility.
  • Other tasks upon request.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:

A bachelor’s degree in Human Resource, Communication, Business Administration, Finance or a related field.

Experience:

4 years of experience in writing and using material publication software, video production, website management and developing material such as brochures, posters, videos, presentations for internal and external use.

4 years of experience in supporting the conceptualization, coordination and communications surrounding strategic communication initiatives and learning journeys and liaise with key stakeholders for information aggregation.

Knowledge & Skills:

Strong interpersonal skills and work ethics, able to proactively and independently pursue tasks and ensure timely delivery.

Written and analytic skills; able to gather, review and synthesize information from a variety of sources, and create clear and concise reports based on information gathered.

Effective organizational and planning skills to ensure set objectives are achieved within agreed timeframes.

Language:

Fluency (level C) in English language. Knowledge of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or WFP’s working language, Portuguese, will be an advantage.
