BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters, and the impact of climate change. We are currently seeking to fill a Junior Consultant position under the Public Partnerships and Resourcing Division (PPR) based in London, UK. The position will be based at our office in London, United Kingdom. The purpose of the assignment is (i) to provide media monitoring and prepare analysis and research on the UK donor environment (ii) to manage WFP UK social media channels (iii) to support the roll out of WFP campaigns in the UK (iv) and to plan in-person and virtual advocacy events.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Manage WFP UK social media accounts.

2. Monitor UK media for mentions of WFP and attitudes toward foreign aid spending and

development issues.

3. Support the roll out of HQ campaigns in the UK.

4. Actively look for opportunities to promote WFP's work around the saving lives and changing

lives.

5. Support in the management of in-person and virtual advocacy events.

6. Feed into weekly updates on UK aid related issues to London, HQ and field colleagues.

7. Perform other duties as required.

DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:

-Increase WFP UK following on Twitter.

- Improve the quality and relevance of social media assets shared on WFP UK Twitter account.

- Increase the engagement rate on WFP UK Twitter account, including key stakeholders.

- Provide daily UK media monitoring which is customer focused.

- Establish WFP UK methodology for working with CAM HQ tools such as Brandwatch and Cision

- Support in the planning and management of advocacy events highlighting WFP's work on climate change mitigation and school meals.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:

Advanced University degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, Marketing Communications or other relevant field.

Experience:

Experience in international development cooperation and media desirable

Knowledge and Skills:

Understanding of social media trends. Ability to spot a strong story and to convey it in an enengaging way to diverse audiences. Ability to work independently towards challenging targets and strict deadlines. Excellent planning, management and coordination skills. Ability to work in a multi-cultural and dynamic environment. Understanding of UK aid programmes, policies and practice, and the politics that surround intrenational development in the UK. Experience in organizing advocacy events.

Languages:

Full fluency in English language.
