WFP’s Regional Bureau for the Middle East and Northern Africa (RBC), based in Cairo, Egypt, provides strategic guidance, policy/technical support and direction to WFP operations and activities in 16 countries: Algeria, Armenia, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Morocco, State of Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine and Yemen. These country offices aim to assist roughly one-third of all of WFP’s beneficiaries (approx. 30 million) in some of the most critical humanitarian emergencies of our time. RBC is also active in the ‘Changing Lives’ side of WFP’s mandate, helping national governments and local communities improve nutrition, livelihoods, school feeding, social protection, climate and disaster risk reduction and other programmes that build resilience and support development.

JOB PURPOSE

The Social Media Senior Content Creator will play a key role in the UN World Food Programme regional office in Cairo's social media team. They will be responsible for managing the content calendars for WFP's social media accounts, developing and executing social media campaigns, and creating high-quality content in both Arabic and English. This position will work closely with the social media manager and the rest of the social media team to create engaging content that raises awareness about the work of the UN World Food Programme and inspires people to support our mission to end hunger.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Develop and implement an overarching content strategy for social media platforms aligned with the MENA Regional Office's goals and objectives.
  • Develop and manage content calendars for WFP's social media accounts in Arabic and English, ensuring that all content is on brand, engaging, and aligned with the organization's objectives.
  • Monitor social media platforms for trends, conversations, and emerging issues related to WFP's work and the MENA region, and provide timely updates to the team.
  • Create & oversee high-quality, multimedia content for social media channels, including graphics, videos, and photos, that is optimized for social media and drives engagement.
  • Collaborate with the social media manager and other team members to develop and execute thematic campaigns that raise awareness about the work of the UN World Food Programme and encourage action.
  • Support in implementing social media strategy for WFP's regional and Arabic speaking global accounts based on updated insights on social media performance best practice and legacy content performance.
  • Work closely with colleagues across the organization, including program and communication teams across the region, to develop compelling and accurate content that highlights WFP's impact on the ground.
  • Support offices in the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe region in keeping up to date with the most recent social media trends and insights, identify opportunities for key dates and events throughout the year and able to manage campaigns and assets.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest social media trends and best practices, and share insights and recommendations with social media officers across the region.
  • Analyze social media metrics to evaluate content performance, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven recommendations to optimize content strategies.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior team members as needed.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field or an advanced university degree in communications or related field is preferable.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in social media content creation and management, preferably in a non-profit or international development organization.
  • Demonstrated expertise in social media content creation and management, with a track record of producing high-quality content that drives engagement.
  • Demonstrated expertise in using social media management tools (Sprout Social, Planable, Hootsuite, etc.) to schedule cross-platform content.
  • Experience in managing social media campaigns and advertising on platforms such as Facebook Ads Manager or Google Ads is highly desirable.
  • Experience working in the humanitarian or development sector is an advantage.

Knowledge and skills:

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with proven experience in producing various types of social media content.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across different departments and cultures.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

Languages:

Demonstrated fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic is required.
