JOB PURPOSE

To provide research and specialised communications services that support the creation of content and services aimed at maintaining and enhancing WFP’s visibility and reputation and supporting fundraising activities.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These jobs are found in Headquarters (HQ), Regional Bureaux (RBs) and Country Offices (COs), and report to a Communications Officer. Job holders at this level demonstrate responsibility and initiative to respond independently to queries with only general guidance. There is a requirement to use judgment in dealing with unforeseen problems on a daily basis.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Under the direct supervision of the Communications Officer, the Communications Associate will assist with the communications and advocacy efforts of WFP Myanmar including the following:

• Monitor updates by traditional and social media and other possible sources and conduct desk research for information relevant to the WFP in Myanmar and its mandate • Assist in developing various internal and external publications such as social media posts, stories, posters and infographics to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages and branding • Conduct research, suggest ideas, and provide support to ensure the timely and effective delivery of communications/advocacy projects (using desktop publication, video/film, photographic, radio, etc.) • Manage and maintain records and databases, such as photos and videos, and contact lists, to ensure the information is accurate, organised and readily available for others to access • Manage and produce visibility and IEC materials • Assist with the management of external advocacy events such as press conferences, field visits, exhibitions to ensure that they are effectively scheduled, publicised and attended • Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, in order to provide an aligned, coherent service, and to identify opportunities to collaborate/integrate processes and activities • Assist with translations (English to Burmese and or vice versa) • Assist in preparing briefs and meeting notes • Any other ad-hoc duties as required

Specialised Knowledge in Communications Exhibits specalised technical knowledge of communications channels processes, tools and techniques. In immediate area of responsibility, provides support in developing written, visual, audio and multi-media content for communications materials and suggestions for improved communications processes. Sociopolitical Contextual Understanding Shows awareness of the multilateral/interagency environment and the dynamics in which WFP operates which informs approach to daily tasks. Communication Strategy and Planning Demonstrates sound understanding of WFP communications strategy and effectively implements tailored media and communications plans which support the delivery of the strategy.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Desired Experiences For Entry Into The Role: 3 years of work experience in communications, public relations, marketing or in media industry

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area. Language: Fluency in English and Burmese languages

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

• Has demonstrated a sound understanding of communication techniques and activities and awareness of the socio-political context in which WFP operates through day to day work. • Skill and experience in writing, photo-/videography and graphic design are an advantage • Ability to travel to field locations as required
