Tanzania has a proud and long-lasting tradition of harmony; and a culture that places great emphasis on welcoming others. It is generally a safe and peaceful country. However, just like in any other country it is wise to observe certain precautions, especially in larger urban areas.

Dar es Salaam is the largest City in Tanzania, as the major port and commercial center. Although the Government has since 2018 shifted to Dodoma (the political and administrative capital city of Tanzania), Embassies and UN offices are based in Dar-es-Salaam. Dar es Sa-laam is situated on the coast, overlooking the Indian Ocean. It is an International multicultural city with a mix of religions. There is a wide range of facilities available, including numerous shopping centers, movie theatres, restaurants and many new developments planned..

Most international staff live in the seaside neighborhoods of Masaki and Oyster Bay, and to a lesser extent in Msasani and Mikocheni all of which cluster in and around a peninsula to the north of the city center.
